I tried to write a #floppy for my #C64 using my #XUM1541 and my 1541-II drive. Somehow, it seems to have problems halfway through.
Could this be an issue with the floppy disk itself, or the XUM1541? Happens with both my 1541-II, so they shouldn't be the issue.
Are there test programs for C64 that fully write a floppy disk?

It stops writing at 70% according to #CBMTransfer without returning an error. #fedihelp#retrocomputing#Commodore
If you remember: I have a CBM 8050 dual floppy disk drive with Micropolis floppy mechanisms. However drive 0 has a malfunction and is not working quite right. So due to the magic of buying two, I now have ANOTHER 8050. #floppydisk#commodore#commodorePET#retrocomputing
The OCS version of Simon The Sorcerer is quite impressive! I only have the PC CD version here, but luckily ADFs are readily available... #simonthesorcerer#retrogaming#commodore#amiga
And there we have it: replacement 6502 and 6522s from Rockwell for the gutted 1541 I repaired a couple of weeks ago. Now the drive is back into full working order!
The 6522 chips are relatively new and not MOS branded, but I think it's better than a non-working drive! #retrocomputing#commodore#c64#floppydisk

💬Excerpt from an interview with Jane Jensen refuting the so-called experts of the time who claimed that the main drawback of adventure games is the inability to replay them once finished.
After getting the #Commodore#C64 and #C128 running again, the next device to repair is the #C1571.
It had #corrosion and #rust on the main board and the power supply is beyond repairworthiness. I'd replace the latter with a #meanwell RD-35 with 5 and 12 volt output.
One #diode was rusty, a few traces needed #cleaning and five #resistor looked bad. Hope the black hybrid chip is still okay.
Sadly, the lower read head seems to be broken, my work might've been in vain. #floppydrive#retrocomputer
Good and bad news... the replacement #PSU works, and the repaired PCB seems to work, too.
But the bottom read head is now confirmed dead. I measured the coils directly at the head. Like before, only the erase coil is intact. #Commodore#C1571#floppydrive#repair#retrocomputer
At least my three #Commodore 1541-II drives are fine. They read my floppies and pass the tests. One of them even shows perfect #alignment scores.
I'll leave the 1571 alone for now, until I find a replacement or other solution.
Next, I still have a VC-1541 to repair. It had a bit of rust, too. Also, an #ALPS drive this time. #retrocomputer#1541ii#1541#VC1541
