I tried to write a for my using my and my 1541-II drive. Somehow, it seems to have problems halfway through.
Could this be an issue with the floppy disk itself, or the XUM1541? Happens with both my 1541-II, so they shouldn't be the issue.
Are there test programs for C64 that fully write a floppy disk?
A video of where the problem start: https://makertube.net/videos/watch/e552f057-cdd2-4958-a593-342270dc0f9f
It stops writing at 70% according to without returning an error.

If you remember: I have a CBM 8050 dual floppy disk drive with Micropolis floppy mechanisms. However drive 0 has a malfunction and is not working quite right. So due to the magic of buying two, I now have ANOTHER 8050.

Until now I do not own any storage system whatsoever for my Commodore C64 breadbin.

I am looking into several solutions like the SD2IEC (several) combined with a Final Cartridge III+ cartridge or an EPYX FASTLOAD cartridge.

The perfect yet pricy (for me) solution would be the Ultimate 1541 II-L cartridge.

Another one could be the Pi1541 but I haven't yet found any offer that can sell me the complete thing with the case ...

And there we have it: replacement 6502 and 6522s from Rockwell for the gutted 1541 I repaired a couple of weeks ago. Now the drive is back into full working order!
The 6522 chips are relatively new and not MOS branded, but I think it's better than a non-working drive!

Hat vielleicht noch jemand eine MOS 8501 CPU für den über? Die hier wurde vom Vorgänger bei einem Reparaturversuch falsch herum auf den Sockel gesteckt und ist dabei gestorben. Das Gerät soll weiter leben.

After getting the and running again, the next device to repair is the .
It had and on the main board and the power supply is beyond repairworthiness. I'd replace the latter with a RD-35 with 5 and 12 volt output.
One was rusty, a few traces needed and five looked bad. Hope the black hybrid chip is still okay.
Sadly, the lower read head seems to be broken, my work might've been in vain.

the worst corrosion on the main board. a rusty diode and a few other rusty pins.
the same section after cleaning and replacing the diode and five resistors (the blue ones). the fixed traces have been covered by soldermask again
the mechanics schowing the read heads. sadly, the lower head is reading open circuit where it shouldn't, indicating broken coils.

Good and bad news... the replacement #PSU works, and the repaired PCB seems to work, too.
But the bottom read head is now confirmed dead. I measured the coils directly at the head. Like before, only the erase coil is intact.

At least my three #Commodore 1541-II drives are fine. They read my floppies and pass the tests. One of them even shows perfect #alignment scores.
I'll leave the 1571 alone for now, until I find a replacement or other solution.
Next, I still have a VC-1541 to repair. It had a bit of rust, too. Also, an #ALPS drive this time.

the outside of the VC-1541 when I received it. very dirty and a bit damaged
the inside after opening the case. there is a bit of rust on the transistors and underneath
