Restarting your apps while the network is offline makes you realize some things are silly… like needing to click the Reload button in #web#browsers' error pages, when they very well know when the operating system is fully back online anyway.
Therefore, I filed a request for #GNOMEWeb / #Epiphany to do that for me when #GNOME / #NetworkManager signals that online connectivity has been restored: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/epiphany/-/issues/2230
I'm wondering if you have any #thoughts on the "#Web#Environment#Integrity" proposal by some #Google folks. I wrote a short thread about it, but would be interested in hearing your thoughts before reading it (if you do read it - I'm not demanding it 😀 ).
😑 Chrome 114 Breaks Web Page Reading with JAWS 2021 and Earlier
When launching the latest version of Google Chrome, (Version 114), with JAWS 2019, 2020, and 2021, an issue occurs that prevents web pages from being visible in the Virtual Buffer.
Every family member I have uses Chrome on their mobile because “Google” and pretty much every family member has over 100 tabs open at any one time.
And that’s not because they want 99+ tabs open. It’s because they simply don’t close them / practice tab management.
Like, it’s a little frustrating that they all use Chrome, but even more frustrating that Chrome doesn’t have the option to “Close tabs after {days}” option.
So I've been messing with browsers for a while, and I think I've finally decided on Vivaldi. 😎
Yay for Profiles that work well because all my sanity is based on splitting up all the projects into profiles. I also like that I don't have to give up my favourite Chrome extensions. Panels are useful too.
Fascinating to see how they've built Mastodon in. I like the prompts they push out over the first few days for onboarding. :blobcatthinking:
Ok, made the switch to #Firefox and wondering what extensions people recommend. I’ve installed Badger, Facebook Container, Search By Image, and Dark Background and Light Text.
If you wanted to donate to make web browsers better, what would you do with it?
I'm sure the most immediate thing people would think is the Mozilla foundation, but I'm wondering what other options there are. #askfedi#askfediverse#browsers
Not had my coffee yet and just tried to use Backspace to go back a webpage.
It's been gone 10 years and it's still in my brain. And I'm still angry it went. #Browsers#NotAwakeYet#BringBackBackspace
Good morning federation pulsation, what's occurin'?
Day 2 of living without #browsers on my #work#PC. I am noticing a surprisingly low impact except for a substantial productivity boost. Working with my computer feels very peaceful because all that's running is #VisualStudio or #VSCode.
I thought I would miss the #web more, but no. Not really. Sometimes I look something up on my phone, but the #computer just feels like a workshop now. A pure tool.
I have disabled all my #browsers using the #Windows#registry to stop myself from getting side-tracked all the time.
So far, it's been going surprisingly well! It's a bit annoying because I also can't look up #programming questions anymore, but it kinda forces me to think myself and actually read the #code on my machine.
Decided to test some browser fingerprinting this morning via the Cover Your Tracks tool by @eff. @brave, @librewolf, and (no surprise) @torproject all performed (or appeard to perform) better than @mullvadnet.
Applescript support in #ArcBrowser is pretty broken. One space, one window, three tabs open, but via Applescript it reports a list of 57 (!) dysfunctional Tab objects.
Thorium Browser claims to be the fastest browser on Earth
They claim an 8-38% improvement over vanilla Chrome. It is not a completely de-Googled browser, but their focus has been on improving performance as well as a number of patches to restrict what is passed back to Google and generally improve security and priva ...continues
