What is going on with #redhat !?
I am still waiting to learn more about how this will affect #AlmaLinux and #RockyLinux . if it does, then it's time to move from #fedora to #opensuse or #debian.
Such a massive blow to the #linux community
"Since #RedHat has no control over #RockyLinux or #AlmaLinux, it appears the company is taking aim at them by restricting #RHEL source code access to #CentOS Stream. This will make it more difficult for Rocky and Alma to maintain the 1:1 compatibility they currently have with RHEL.
Red Hat has certainly been making waves in the #Linux community. In addition to its widely criticized CentOS decisions, the company recently laid off #Fedora Program Manager Ben Cotton"

It's ironic how the new #RHEL rebuild projects like #AlmaLinux and #RockyLinux talk excessively about community. The reality is that these communities will always be limited by the nature of being RHEL rebuilds. It's a difficult problem that plagued #CentOS for years. A select few individuals rebuild the RHEL source code, and everyone else is a consumer. These community members can do things like host a mirror or create alternative spins, but they can't actually contribute to the OS.
"Both AlmaLinux OS 9.2 and RockyLinux 9.2 comes with various security-related changes, such as a new rule for idle session termination to SCAP (Security Content Automation Protocol), updates the Clevis automated encryption framework to accept external tokens, and adds support for multiple CA files to Rsyslog’s TLS-encrypted logging"

My new open source operating stack consists of #almalinux , #debian, #linuxmint, #freebsd, and #openbsd. Each of these 4 operating systems have their distinct advantages and place. I love the #foss life.
Something tells me Red Hat (read: IBM) is a little salty about the rebuilds. Also, I see this from both sides: first, AlmaLinux doesn't modify upstream packages other than removing trademarks - otherwise they'd have something like Oracle Linux, a distro based on RHEL, not a rebuild which could introduce new bugs and it wouldn't be 1:1 with RHEL. Second, RHEL is the upstream project and this, whether it's actually a bug or not, comes from them. Third, maybe Red Hat's representative shouldn't be a dick. It's what turns people off from open source projects. Fourth, if Red Hat really doesn't like others rebuilding their OS, then they should go fork FreeBSD and create RHBSD then. The FreeBSD license doesn't require source code to be released (it's why Netgate was able to close up pfSense). #opensource#linux#almalinux#redhat#rhel
