It would appear that “former Tory MP Antoinette Sandbach has threatened the University of Cambridge with legal action after a historian named her as a descendant of merchants who enslaved his ancestors.”
On a low turnout (37.2%), Labour secured a 20% swing in tis favour to win the #Rutherglen#byelection beating the SNP by 58% to 27% of the vote... while the #Tories crashed to 3.9%.
And, now the reading of the runes can get under way....
The IPPR thinks it will take two terms to reverse the damage wrought on the #publicservies by the #Tories.... sadly I think they are under-estimating the damage the Tory strategy has caused the underlying social structures that support the #publicsector.
Don't get me wrong the work needs to start & will certainly take a decade, but the reversal will take decades to finally rid us of the legacy of a toxic decade of #austerity...
The more immediate Q. is: is #KeirStarmer the man to do it????
*unless you live in Uxbridge and South Ruislip - you had a chance to get rid of the #Tories but still voted for them
How bad do things have to get before you dump a party that gave us the human haystack?
So when your New Tory MP fails to deliver for you by not stopping #ULEZ, when the #London Mayor is re-elected. You deserve everything you get. So remember no moaning!
Two charts that suggest even #Tory voters have had enough of this government - with the two issues the #Tories are seen by most as failing on, being the very issues that #voters now regard as key.
However, while that may be good news on the #NHScrisis - people may appreciate its an Govt, engineered crisis... the issue of 'handling' #immigration may be less positive result if that means a tougher stance is preferred (by these voters)
(the poll is of people who voted Tory in the last election)

Quite an interesting, and damning, piece here by Richard #Walker, CEO of #Iceland, of why he is no longer a #Conservative. I have never had that much time for Conservative environmentalism but its disaffection with #Tories is real:
the realisation that Conservatives are not conserving anything [other than their own class/personal interests]
Siobhain McDonagh, Labour, on Politics Live last year. She confirms Labour have been told to vote Tory over the SNP or they're out. Labour have made deals around Scotland with the Tories to take over various councils. She also confirms this is Starmer's doing.
Ok. Have now recovered. The lesson in this is: with very low turnout, very close results, and all three progressive parties standing against each other, #Tories can still win seats. (If those 893 #Green had gone to #Labour, Tories would have lost).
I am a Green Party member and REALLY dislike Starmer’s Labour but given where we are at, #FPTP and 13 years of Tory ruin, surely #tacticalvoting is key
Hmmm.... I wonder whether these polling results have anything to do with the #Tories continued attacks on #highereducation?
No, surely not, that would be waaaay toooo cynical
Its almost like they want to ensure only their 'natural' supporters (who can easily afford University) can get a degree - they're not there yet but the direction of travel seems clear....
Something that the WM vote against the SNP amendment on the Israel / Gaza crisis has shown me: where the Tories are already doing their best to destroy lives - and by that I mean of their own country people and those in most need - given an election where Labour wins, they will follow exactly the same policy.
The Red of Labour is merely a different shade of the Blue of Conservatives.
Healthwatch England concludes that the continuing #NHS#strikes compounded an already severe issue of #patients waiting for treatment & its impact on wellbeing.
Indeed, while in the short-term they are right this may make things worse, lets not forget that political pressure (short of striking) has had little impact on the #Tories defunding of the NHS which is a direct cause of delays.
British people, I cannot explain adequately what absolute hell the American healthcare system is. You know how people say: "at least in the US, you can get fast treatment. At least in the US, you can choose your doctor. At least in the US, you can get the most innovative treatment"?
Lies. All of it.
The US healthcare system excels at one thing only, and that's bankrupting people.
Following the effective strike by #firearms officers in the Metropolitan #Police over one of their colleagues being chased with the murder of #ChrisKaba, we have a situation where the #army is 'supporting' the police in the counter-terrorism activities.
So, the firearms officers think they are above the law, the #Tories seeming interest in service level requirements doesn't seem to apply to armed officers, and we now have the army on the streets.
#Braverman: "I do not believe these marches are merely a cry for help for #Gaza. They're an assertion of primacy by Islamists, of the kind we are more used to seeing in Northern #Ireland."
#Sunak failed to force the Met to ban a pro #Palestine ceasefire march, so his attack dog Cruella reacted, prompting the #FarRight to tell its supporters to protest against the march.
Why is it wrong to call for peace on Armistice Day? 💢 🤔
90% of voters, including 65% of Tories say Britain needs a fresh team of leaders!
If anyone's still wondering why Emmanuel Macron found time to meet Keir Starmer today, a quick glance at figures in the latest politcal monitor polling report from Ipsos will explain all 👀
⚠️ Sunak viewed as even less competent than Doris!
⚠️ Tories more unpopular on EVERY metric
⚠️ Sunak is less popular than Starmer in all but 2 metrics
