I hear great things about how well done the progressivism of is and that it’s a great show besides. I’d like to give it a chance, but I have some problems with .

, his most well known property, is riddled with racism misogyny, and the like that, for me, crosses the line. I personally cancelled him a long time ago.

Help me though- has he gone on an “apology tour” (i.e. expressed regret)? Is modern Family Guy better? How can I forgive his past transgressions?

@Jamie TBH I never watched family guy so I can't speak to what he did on that show or what he's said about it or its themes.

As far as Orville, it is progressive-ish is some ways. Though I will say at times it feel like it might be doing so almost in a way that is meant to poke fun? I don't know, I could never really tell where it was on that spectrum. I think it was meant to be a positive Star Trek like show, but you definitely have the aire of a comedy writer there. Show message unclear.

Could recent moves involving Disney CEO Bob Iger, Hulu, and Seth MacFarlane lead us one step closer to a final decision on ? https://bleedingcool.com/tv/the-orville-recent-disney-hulu-seth-macfarlane-moves-a-good-sign/

Just finished watching The Orville New Horizons and... wow - how awesome was THAT! This season was great, and much more serious than previous ones with a lot of good character development and some really good stories too!

I always said that The Orville did Star Trek better than Star Trek does (even when it was more comedic at the start) and that was even more true in this season - the Moclan and Kaylon story arcs were really meaty and were really well done! And they even tied up some of the loose ends leftover from previous seasons too (though I do wonder what the deal was with the Chak'Tal...).

The last episode was more like an epilogue but even if they don't do another season (it doesn't seem likely at this point) I think it had a really good run and did what it set out to do. I would love to see more of this setting, in some form (books? comics? cartoons?) but I'd also be OK if this is all we're going to get. "Future Unknown", indeed!

if you're still on the fence about this and you like sci-fi, then I would definitely recommend that you start watching it - it's very good stuff! #scifi #TheOrville #NewHorizons

Habitually rewatching #StarTrek daily. All Trek is Trek.

Often reading #TrekBooks and recently started reading Star Trek comics. Mostly reading scholarly non-fiction #books and #academic articles.

Will mostly be posting about Star Trek, #Ecology, and #astronomy

Will sometimes post about other #SciFi series such as #BattlestarGalactica (Ronald D. Moore reboot), #Babylon5, #TheOrville, and #ForAllMankind.

@mina@berlin.social avatar

@yours_truly

Painterly style digital illustration of an owl -ish humanoid character. His eyes have no pupils but ae only read and he has a second head of smaller read eyes on his forehead that mimic his face expression. He has a little beak with a black tipp and his color is blue-ish to gray-ish. Her looks a bid sad and surprised.
A mechanical looking Android with blueish glowing eyes looking at his right hand. Tone of the picture is cold-blue-ish. The Android's body is with silver metal and black fabric were the joints are. His head has no detailed facial features. Just to glowing lights from under the surface looking curiously into the world. In the backround a rough drawn backround. The innerpart of a spaceship. He is standing near a window and light comes from outside
A side portrait with rough black ink lines of Batman in his costume. His look is stern. It is a bust view. In the backround is only little detail, very blurry. The shine of the light is a purple glow that reflects on his helm and cape that is flowing to the front. The overall vibe of the picture is calm and dark, but not sad. Just calm, stern and without too much visual or emotional noise.

Poorly worded article title. Very short interview. We do learn that it seems John was requested to speak for a small part in , but not a full role. Is this true, @GoodAaron?

Saw a trend started by @AndorianSoup & @richard.
Ranking TV shows! I don't usually do lists, but here's mine! 😎

There are lots of great things that didn't make this list, plus the order is fluid:

Plus an honorable mention, because it's a movie not TV. 😉

@lothcat

My top 3 are :

  • Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
  • My Neighbor Totoro
  • Howl's Moving Castle

I love all 3 equally and could never rank them. 💖

But they are all different genres, so Nausicaä is definitely my favorite sci-fi movie! 😊

5ciFiGirl,
@5ciFiGirl@starbase80.wtf avatar

@lothcat

Kiki's is a good one too! 😎

The rest of my favorites:

Spirited Away! An exquisite work of art, and is special to me as the 1st one I saw. 😊

I also love 'Castle in the Sky', and even 'The Castle of Cagliostro'! (What is it with castles?!? 😆 )

Do you know anything about his newest one? 🤔 Isn't it coming out ... nowish?? 😯

Embarrassing to admit, so many of the classics I see on other folks list, like Babylon 5 and Stargate, are shows I haven't seen ... "yet" ... I think I'll start the Stargate journey first, then move to Babylon 5. 🙏🙌

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@riversidebryan @jcrabapple Nothing to be embarrassed about. B5 was hard to watch when it was on; kept getting moved around; and largely written by one of the people involved in Sense8 (another show I really enjoyed). I’ve never seen the Stargate series either, and the ten seasons commitment keeps making me put it off a bit more. Either way, I hope you enjoy them.
