Today it’s the #Yew - a tree I’ve been intrigued by ever since we first came across this big old yew tree next to #Wilmington church here in #Sussex. It’s over 1,500 years old and pretty amazing! 1/x
Well, here it is! The paper we've enjoyed researching & writing more than any other. The Crazy Paper AKA -
‘All the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order’: The riddle of the ‘Pulborough Area’ torc from Sussex.' by Tess Machling, Roll Williamson & Giovanna Fregni.
#ClimateDiary Our current experience of the #NewAbnormal here in #Eastbourne#Sussex#UK: Day after day of rain (soo much rain now!) dark oppressive skies, and endless wind. I know of course that we are the lucky ones - no heatwave or floods - but even here you can feel just how unsettled everything is. We all feel it, the whole family. Plus all the news from elsewhere. Hard to get on with normal things.
#ClimateDiary Another morning of checking travel information; i am only travelling in later and I think #Sussex is not quite so badly hit by #StormIsha; but if I don’t make it to my lecture it will be the third time this academic year due to storms. All this travel disruption is more and more part of our “new abnormal”, to quote Mann. Ninth named storm since September. #ClimateEmergency
Here in the UK, both #Kent and #Sussex will have a hosepipe ban from 26 June.
I was expecting this after seeing this graph from an email from them - people seem to have gone mad with their water use during the recent hot weather...
This afternoon’s (16.49) First Quarter Moon over East Sussex. A moment between heavy clouds, so I count myself lucky to have been able to capture it. OM1, 100-400 at 400mm, F8, -3ev, 1/250, tripod. iPad edit (minimal). #Moon#Sussex
#Kent and #Sussex hosepipe ban announced from 26 June
“Some households in Kent and Sussex have been without water since Monday due to supply issues”
@junesim63 you were sayjng this the other day: good to finally have a #HosePipeBan now but it really sounds like they left it to the very last minute, in the name of “business as usual” #Drought
#ClimateDiary it’s been raining incredibly heavily here yesterday and today; i am anxious for my sister and her children driving over to our house. Meanwhile, a friend in Alfriston posted this in a WhatsApp group. This area floods a lot, but this scale is something else. #Sussex#EastSussex
#ClimateDiary Like many other parts of the UK East Sussex is completely soaked and in many places flooded at the moment. Just took these photos from train between Polegate and Lewes. #Floods
Something I'm really proud of is that I once built a (this) bike from scratch. What that now means is that I have the skills and (more importantly) the tools to confidently strip a bike back, clean it and re-build it.
I can confirm I put the bike back correctly (well, correctly enough for me to go for a bike ride this morning).
The #sussex countryside was lovely and peaceful this morning - only shattered once by me with a loud expletive at a car who came too close for the second time (I'd already caught up with them once...)
