I just "silenced" Mastodon.social for Jawns.club. This will make any posts from that server invisible unless Jawns follow the relevant account, or intentionally seek out a given post.
This is a temporary measure until they get the ridiculous number of #spam bots under control, I just got something like 5 reports in five minutes.
Anyone else had this new online shop "Temu" relentlessly spam them recently?
Well I thought I'd relent and gave them $2.99 for some Lenovo X3 Pro bone conducting headphones about a week ago.
Pleasantly surprised they actually arrived today. Obvs Lenovo will just allow their name onto anything so no idea what these are actually like. But they do have multipoint unlike my current cheapy bone-conducting ones.
Maybe Temu aren't as bad as Wish. Might check them out next time I need tat. #Temu#Wish
Hey all #block and report recommendation: Just received a #spam direct message from @rwkyf598 - they were trying to sell me something for "tonifying the kidney and strengthening the yang" in order to, per them help with erections. So...yea.
OK, had to close then open new accounts on #visionontv#peertube because of #spam, the spam is starting agen - the is an update that allows you to put new accounts on ask/moderation, we need to upgrade at some point to get this.
Based on the amount of spam signups on https://pixelfed.social, I wouldn't be surprised if spam accounts correlate to other platforms recent user influx as well.
I'm not saying all growth is spam, but they are significant enough on my :pixelfed: instance to be noticable.
Luckily, 90% of spam accounts on Pixelfed are caught and hidden before any user sees them thanks to our Autospam system. #spam#fediverse
We are working hard to get to our first goal of $250/mn on Patreon. Help us out. These cloud servers cost money. #Elon wants you to pay $8/mn to listen to his BS. We just want to pay the bills and give back to the community. #SupportYourLocalServer
In case some people are less aware of it, there's another spammer in the same vein as #thegx out there, @jsfans, which I've seen on a few servers out there so far. No idea if it's trying to copycat thegx or not, but something else to keep an eye out for. The accounts I've seen of it to this point are all suspended. Thought I would mention it in case some of you out there are seeing more of its accounts than I am.
I assume the python script that was written up for thegx could be easily reworked to handle this too.
The best way to make money in the music business is to sell musicians the hope that someone will listen to their music. Amateur, unsigned, and naive musicians are often easy targets for spammers, faux record companies, playlisters utilizing bots (to fake streams), and marketing funnels.
