Pakistan is chaos masquerading as a country, it’s almost painful to observe the daily outrages, attacks, and natural disasters plaguing the country. The economy is ruined, the political landscape is full of mines and uncertainty, regional conflict and fundamentalist Islamic terror take thousands of lives every year. And last year’s floods displaced millions and wiped out a ton of crops. Pakistan’s electric grid remains unreliable, and its infrastructure minimal. What infrastructure exists is degrading due to poor maintenance and corruption - which is rife. And this country has nukes, about 170 of them. Just another potential geopolitical flashpoint or failed state. #Pakistan #SouthAsia

An example of the extreme denial prevalent among textile tycoons and industrialists:

"Exports of textile, clothing contract over 9pc in July-August"

But the entire article chooses to explain declines in economic or financial terms, rather than even mention the repeated destruction being meted out by #ClimateChange

A few days ago, we took a trip to Chandni Chowk in Old #Delhi. Right across from Red Fort is Lal Mandir, a #Jain Temple from the 17th century. The inside is gorgeous but what makes it so special is that it hosts the Charity #Bird Hospital. This facility takes injured #birds from all over the city, nurses them back to health, and releases them. It is a true embodiment of #nonviolence (#ahimsa), the essential virtue of #Jainism.

Asoka's commitment to spreading these policies across his empire is considered to be borne from his experience of the Kalinga war in Orissa, where he was horrified at the destruction caused by his own army. Do you think these rock edicts were a good way to popularise his beliefs?

Activists across had been loudly warning back-to-back climate disasters can permanently end harvests:

“The agricultural economy in all districts..is now three short crops in succession. Matured rice crops were swept away when the fields flooded in July, but over the next three months (i.e. Jul-Sep), we used to sow and harvest maize. Hopes for both crops are now gone.”
