IMHO, #Siri isn’t fantastic, and there’s some areas where it doesn’t seem to have appreciably improved since 2011, but tech pundits are vastly overstating the case of it being terrible.

So, regarding the headline “Microsoft is shutting down Cortana, and Apple should do the same with Siri”? No.

#Apple 's #Siri just warned me it would take nearly 3 hours to get to my next appointment, on foot. It starts in 6 minutes. I'm already in the room.

Thanks, Apple. #ai

We were joking about why I hadn’t done a thing, and my excuse was that yesterday, I asked #Siri to remind me about it “tomorrow.” This immediately, of course, led to Macbeth, and I declared that “The thing should be done hereafter.”

Then I got he idea: “Hey, Siri, remind me to do the thing hereafter.”

Which… worked!

Apparently hereafter is interpreted as “two hours hence.”

@idoubtit I really wish I could change the wake word. And the voice. In #startrek one need only say, “Computer.” I have found #Siri to be helpful while driving, e.g., messages, map searches, music. I also have it integrated with my home automation. When my hands are full of gardening tools, I just say, “Hey Siri, open garage door”.

Your problem is that you named both of them Siri. You should name one of them Ously!. If you happen to need to talk to both of them, you can say, Siri-ously!

I just got in my car to run an errand and #Siri auto-suggested directions to the brew pub downtown. She isn’t always a great digital assistant, but sometimes she has her moments.

Does #Siri listen to or take into account feedback at all? If I say “That’s not what I wanted,” is my original request flagged?

Siri has gotten worse lately, for me anyway. It won’t take and send simple messages; it won’t launch shortcuts it has launched fine for years. What is happening?

I realize there are privacy and remote vs on-device issues connected to feedback but I wish there was a way to make good use of these many mistakes, to flag them for testing or reprocessing or something.

#Alexa #Siri ...

    #TodayILearned:

When setting a timer with #Siri or #GoogleAssistant, on your #smartphone, #HomePod, or Google #Nest device, there is no need to use the phrase “set a timer for…” Just invoke your digital assistant and tell it the number of minutes or seconds you want:

“Hey Siri, 2 minutes,” or just hold down the side button on your #iPhone and say “two minutes.”

The same applies to #Google Assistant. “Hey Google, 30 seconds.”

Allowing #Apple’s supply chain to be entirely concentrated in china, thereby overwhelmingly exposed to destabilizing existential geopolitical risk,

    Or

Allowing #Siri to devolve into a rotting laughing-stock, right at the moment when LLM generative AI is very comprehensively demonstrating just how abysmal Siri really is…
