Indian voters reject Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a one-party state in win for competitive democracy.

CNN reports: "In what opposition parties have declared as a victory for pluralism, voters in the world’s largest democracy partially rejected Modi’s populist vision for a Hindu-first nation, reducing the BJP’s share of the vote by 63 seats – bringing its total down to 240, far below the 272 required for a parliamentary majority."

What astounds me in political commentary these days is the complete lack of analytical depth, as if political systems did not exist and everything were a matter of good or bad will of persons, like, Trump, Musk, the rich and the Republicans are bad, Biden, Obama, (Soros?) and the Democrats are good, etc. It's like Neanderthals looking up at night, seeing the planets move, and describing it to others. No theory, no underlying physics, no cause and effect.

No political science.

#India #Elections #Politics: "As votes from India’s six-week long general election were counted on Tuesday, it was quickly clear that Narendra Modi was on course for his third term as prime minister. That is where his satisfaction will end.

The early results also showed Modi’s Bharatiya Janata party set to lose its majority for the first time since 2014 — a stunning blow to the authority of India’s strongest leader in decades and one that would leave him dependent on junior partners in his National Democratic Alliance to govern.

On Tuesday night, the NDA was ahead in 291 of 543 seats in India’s lower house of parliament, far below the more than 350 it held before the vote and the 400 that Modi had set as its target.

A motley coalition of anti-BJP opposition parties, known by its acronym INDIA, was on track to nearly double its tally to 234.

Confirmation of the shock result would leave Modi in a weakened position from which to tackle the enormous economic challenges facing India and to undertake the difficult reforms needed to help the world’s most populous country secure its status as a rising global power." https://www.ft.com/content/c715fa47-fb26-401e-8453-ba10f41a71b2

The UK politician Nigel Farage is stirring up hate speech__whilst looking rather jolly & proud about it

“What do I have to offer you? Well I can promise you that I do know one thing. That a woman can’t have a penis! You won’t get any woke PC nonsense from me!” https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jun/04/red-meat-and-milk-clacton-voters-on-nigel-farage-and-his-button-pushing-rhetoric

So the "one thing" Farage knows is how to stir up the "mob"

What an X investment banker.

In a shock result, #India Prime Minister #Modi will likely have to seek a coalition government as projections indicate they will likely to fall short of the votes needed for a majority.

This could have significant policy implications in a country which has recently not been our favorite and a regime which has been secretly trying to assassinate dissidents of their regime within the US and other allies’ territory.

What Idaho’s Primary Tells Us About America’s Culture Wars

The heavily Republican state booted 15 incumbents across the party’s ideological spectrum.

While the election led to net gains for hard-line members of the right, it also underscores how divided Idaho’s party remains.
