"OpenWrt, the open source firmware that sprang from Linksys' use of open source code in its iconic WRT54G router and subsequent release of its work, is 20 years old this year. To keep the project going, lead developers have proposed creating a "fully upstream supported hardware design," one that would prevent the need for handling "binary blobs" in modern router hardware and let DIY router enthusiasts forge their own path."
🛜 OpenWrt developers consider launching their first hardware design

「 Now some of the developers behind the project have put together a proposal for the first hardware designed specifically for OpenWrt, with full upstream Linux support. It would be called OpenWrt One/AP-24.XY, and the goal is to produce a router board that would sell for less than $100 」
Btw. my patch/fix for the weird #Linux#bridge#multicast snooping issue, where it'd stop snooping after 248 days of uptime on 32 bit devices (observed on MIPS on #OpenWrt at least, not sure what else uses CONFIG_HZ=100), got merged. And also made it's way into stable kernels already. And should land in OpenWrt with the next kernel bump.
I have this crazy idea to build a custom distribution of #OpenWRT that turns routers with a usb port into an AirPort Express like device that plays airplay music over a USB DAC.
I’ve read through the Open WRT documentation and you can use a USB device and you can install the SharePlay documentation. I’m going to try and get it to work on my old TP Link AC1750.
While my wife was busy running some errands, I also took the opportunity to shop for some 'toys' of my own 😆
Of course, the Xiaomi will be set up to run OpenWRT.
I've got the 192.168.1.x network with HA in there. Now, I've got an #OpenWrt router with the IP 192.168.1.190 creating 2 new networks: 192.168.100.x. I now want to get the HA into the 192.168.100.x network, but I can't connect it physically, as both the OpenWrt and HomeAssistant run in containers/VMs on #proxmox. I tried experimenting with IP routes, but no success. Does anyone have a clue for me?
Bg : I’m in the process of upgrading my internet, switching to full fibre rather then old broadband.
I’ve now got a spare old router which should run #openwrt (plusnet 270N), I’ll likely upgrade the ram chip as a side project and perhaps the rom as it’s technically fairly easy.
But the question is what to actually do with it, I’ve already got most of the projects you find on the internet, any off the wall ideas? I’ll have serial, 1/2
regarding roaming: IPv4 only suggested 😕
Is anybody here to answer the question, if IPv6 during roaming works, if the setting is changed to IPv6 or IPv4/IPv6 ?
So as part of moving off BT to Zen, I’ve upgraded my connection from 300/50Mb to 500/70Mb. This unfortunately has highlighted that my little MikroTik router running OpenWrt was only just barely keeping up and now I can’t max out my new shiny line.
I’m going to try some tweaks I’ve found in the #OpenWrt forums to eke out a bit of extra performance, but the temptation to go router shopping is ever present. 😆
This morning, I had fun netbooting all the Mikrotik devices that were stuck or had OpenWRT installed on them. I managed to revive all of them except one that got struck by lightning, and I believe it's beyond recovery. Still, I'll have to take it apart to see what got fried.
I really like Mikrotik routers because they offer excellent performance, value, and long-term support. I've never had issues in my fairly simple setups, and they've always been rock-solid. More, they're European.
#Freifunk#multicast#Gluon#OpenWrt
Hey fedi - does anyone own a GL.iNet GL-E750 V2 (Mudi V2) and can help to make it officially supported by OpenWrt?
I am looking into getting a travel modem/router for a trip and would really like to have an option to go for a completely FOSS OS/firmware.
I'm a #linux geek and a security enthusiast. Also, I'm a cheapskate. Last time our family was out and about, the hotel offered paid wifi, priced per device and I wasn't having it. Cue the TP-Link RE650 - a "range extender" capable of running the #OpenWRT router firmware. Performance and stability was crap when doing wifi-to-wifi bridging and the device didn't have enough juice to run #WireGuard#VPN, which is the way I connect safely to my home rack. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered the #Slate AX (#AXT1800) travel router from GL-iNet. Same concept, but half the size, a lot more juice, USB-C powered, SD slot and USB connector and so far rock solid and powerful enough to run WireGuard with cycles to spare. I'm a very happy customer! 🙂
