Just a reminder to subscribe to your local library's newsletter. It's a great way to stay on top of what's going on in your community, learn about the services they offer, and show them that people care.

Mistakes were made. A notable one? Not going all in with a newsletter / strategy 10 YEARS AGO. I wish I had not spent so much time on social media, especially the (now dead) bird site...

Well, it's never too late. I'm in the process of resurrecting my (personal + work projects) and things so far are going well. The open rate for ' newsletter gives me hope.

I'm still seeing at least a half-dozen links being shared around here per day.

It's really pretty sad to see so many people just shrug it off and stick to the status nazi-supporting quo.

I wish there was a clear alternative, a sort-of blogger Wikipedia, an activity-pub-compliant platform for #newsletters+#blogs. We need to create synergy and network effects for small bloggers. Ghost and the alternatives don't check all the boxes yet

Came across this really cool service called Feedbase. It turns your feeds into (Newsgroup) posts that you can comment on! It's definitely grown quite a bit in the last year per the statistics on the website.

Feel free to add your own RSS feeds to your blog or newsletter to the service on the website to help grow the service! It's currently hosting 861 feeds, and serving 5,319,339 articles at the time of this post.

Well, it took a bit more effort than I expected, but I'm completely off Substack as of today.

I dunno if Better Bits, the supporting site for my on-again, off-again book will make a reappearance elsewhere. But Net API Notes, the API industry newsletter I've written since 2015, can now be found at http://netapinotes.com.

The use of email #newsletters and #rss could mostly disappear if there were dedicated #ActivityPub apps to ingest/parse feeds and read or listen to articles. The bonus being that we'd also have comments and virality. Then podcasts and video too. #fediverse #OpenSocialWeb

I've already moved my newsletter off of #Substack due to their platforming of right-wing deniers and #nazis

After the latest failure, taking it to the next step - sent an email to all the substack newsletters I have subscribed too that, if they continue to use Substack, I will, soon, stop subscribing.

Thumbs up to @caseynewton for moving to because of 's open-arms handling of fascist content. He did a good write-up on how they/we got there.

I think it's a big step, logistically, if your newsletter has paying customers, and your livelihood depends on that. You can't just up and leave on a whim. I think a lot of writers try to sit it out, so kudos to Casey for seeing this through.

By all accounts, 2023 was a banner year. Which makes leaving Substack all the more important to do sooner, rather than later:

I know groups of people leaving the bad site are fracturing between going to various sites and we're not all going to concentrate on the same ones or the same combination.
But #newsletters are not it as a replacement.

I didn't follow newsletters even in the '90s when that's all we had! I want LESS email in my life. I'm DEFINITELY not going to subscribe to 3000-4000 newsletters today! 😂
