Meta has announced that Batman: Arkham Shadow will be the first big exclusive game for its Quest 3 VR headset.
It’s an important step forward for the device. As @engadget reports: “One of the main reasons it has been difficult to recommend the $500 Quest 3 VR headset over the $200 Quest 2 is a lack of exclusive titles, as most games have to support both models. This means we haven’t really seen the power of the Quest 3 yet, but the tides are turning.”
What does "privacy" mean when you have half a dozen cameras or sensors strapped to your face?
It's a tough question, and one that honestly, is just starting to be understood. I spoke with privacy experts Maritza Johnson and Mike Godwin for their perspective on whether we can trust tech companies with the data AR/VR headsets like the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest suck in.
@mattontech I feel like there's two different worlds with tech like this.
There are folks who are cushioned for the moment from the consequences of their data being collected. But we remember products like Google glass, where folks objected to wearers infringing on their privacy and recording them without their consent. So it's not just the people who choose to buy these devices.
As others note it's the incidental data collection. Nor do we know the lifecycle of that data.
So... I just discovered that https://xr.bbcmic.ro is a thing - #MetaQuest users who loved the #BBCMicro may want to give it a try! @DominicPajak how come CHAIN"REPTON" reports a disk error! Why can't i play Repton!!
Posting something a little odd: This is me playing Go Tell It On the Mountain on a mixed reality keyboard using the Meta Quest 3 VR headset. The hand tracking has gotten good (but not good enough to let you play the virtual keyboard freestyle--it only works to follow your hands to the selected music.) I was not impressed with the Oculus Rift years ago, but the new #MetaQuest 3 VR device is pretty cool. Spending a fair amount of time playing with it.
apparently I have a $7 credit for #metaquest expiring, any suggestions for what to get? I have a quest 2
The fuss of putting on the headset is mostly why I don't use mine, but the fact almost all games are $30-40 despite being a couple hours long is part of it too
For years David Attenborough worked with production companies to pioneer high tech: drones, infrared, 3D. Now he has worked with Meta to produce what sounds like amazing original VR content on the Galapagos islands. I hope that this inspires others to produce more.
Working on the Virtual Starship, Comfy Chair edition. This is a seated single user version of the starship that uses Gaia Mission data, hand tracking and mixed reality to travel the Milky Way.
Still looking for funding from a VR company or astronomy institute.
No - this is not some AI-generated pic. This is an image taken inside the app. If you would like to travel the Milky Way in your comfy chair, help me find a sponsor for this project!
In case there are a few VR developers on here: I have a wrist button (which brings up a wrist menu) working well with my Quest hand controllers. But when I switch to hand tracking, the button gets displaced and rotated. Anyone have a solution?
It seems logical to me that attaching a widget to a hand should work the same way for controllers or hand tracking. How do I make that happen with an OVRCameraRig in Unity?
Testing the Beta of Rube Works VR by @DavidBFox with my Meta Quest 2. The hand tracking control is innovative and it's more fun than using the controllers.
It's also great meet an old friend from the good old times. 😊
