This kid ran up to me and requested a photo when he saw me with a DSLR. It was cute, but also sad that I couldn’t easily share the photo with them—they didn’t speak English and just kept asking, “photo?” 😭
Sitwasyon sa loob ng Amai Pakpak Medical Center sa #Marawi City kung saan dinala ang mga nasugatan at nasawi sa #MSU-Marawi bombing kahapon, Disyembre 3.
The survivor witnessed the moments leading up to the deadly explosion and claimed that the bomber – a man who wore a black face mask – deliberately planted the bomb before the explosion that ripped through the crowd of Catholic devotees gathered for a morning Mass at the #MSU’s Ali Dimaporo gym on Sunday.
In a signed manifesto, communications and health student councils said a majority of MSU’s 14,000 students were still too scared to return to their classes a week after the bomb attack blamed on a terrorist group.
I would just like to remind all #MSU#Spartan fans that we had a John Smith before, and it worked out sooo well. (yes, I know it's spelled differently, but still).
Mysterious hybrid species discovered hiding among 144-year-old 'zombie seeds' from secretive experiment
"In 1879, botanist William Beal buried 20 glass pint bottles, each filled with wet sand and 50 #seeds belonging to 23 species of weeds, at an unknown location at Michigan State University (#MSU). Beal's goal was to discover how long the seeds could remain viable by digging up the bottles years later to see if the seeds would germinate, or grow into plants. He hoped to discover how long dormant seeds beneath agricultural fields could pose a threat to farmers if they were dredged up by the plow." https://www.livescience.com/planet-earth/plants/mysterious-hybrid-species-discovered-hiding-among-144-year-old-zombie-seeds-from-secretive-experiment
The Michigan State University trustees have voted to ban members of the public with concealed pistol licenses from bringing firearms to the campus where a gunman last February fatally shot three students and injured five others.
Fellow #professors#academics - anybody else feeling an extra wave of horror over the gun violence at UNC today?
Today was the first day of fall term classes where I work and the killing of a UNC faculty member just feels….too much.
@heidilifeldman Yes, my heart goes out to everyone at #UNC today. While the outpouring of care for us at #MSU after February 13 buoyed us, the longer and more difficult road is to redress the underlying causes of gun violence. The classroom, the lab, the studio—these are sacred places of learning.
Florida's policies are starting to drain the universities of talent. People don't want to work in a Republican environment of fear, hatred, and violence.
"...signs of an exodus are apparent.
"The Tampa Bay Times reviewed records showing an upward tick in staff departures at some of Florida’s largest universities."
@alexwild I'm afraid this will have an impact here as well, particularly at #UTexas, but also #TAMU, and even at smaller schools like an #MSU, where potential applicants might decide to teach at UW-River Falls over coming here.
