A lot of early software for #apple|s #Lisa and #Macintosh computers was written in Pascal, including most of the Lisa operating system and applications.
Niklaus Wirth not only invented the language, but he also contributed to Clascal, Apple's object oriented Pascal variant. His help was recruited by Larry Tesler, who not only worked on the Lisa OS, but also on Smalltalk at Xerox PARC and later on the Apple Newton.
It's Music Women Wednesday from @loewe and let me tell you - LiSA has been dropping a bunch of special clips, music clips, music videos onto her YouTube channel in the past few days.
This picture in a CHM article about the #apple#lisa shows Al Kossow @bitsavers and what looks like a Lisa card cage. However, the board in the picture looks unlike every Lisa board I've seen. There's a 64-pin DIL chip (68000?) and a piggyback board on the left with a 40-pin DIL chip, an EPROM, and a 20-pin DIL chip. If this board is in the correct location, it should be an I/O board. So – what is it? Al, can you help, please? 🙂
Even when development started in summer '79 it took twice as long as Apple expected, not only because they had to get rid of Jobs first. So LISA wasn't launched earlier than 1983 with 1Mb RAM for almost U$D 10K. The project was a $50 million investment for Apple Inc., and kept losses low since it sold almost 5K units annually. After 27 months it was in-house competition that buried the Lisa computers, litterally. In the end it was a zero sum game for Apple, but a huge step for modern graphic user-interfaces and more personal computers.
The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) has been granted €1.39mn to finish development of its high-precision laser targeting mechanism.
This will support one of ESA’s most ambitious missions: tracing and studying black holes with the aim of unraveling the history of the universe — humanity’s most challenging puzzle.
ESA’s so-called LISA will be the first space-based observatory designed to study gravitational waves
Some rather rare (NOS) components for my #Apple#Lisa clone have arrived, the PCBs should be here later this week.
I wonder if it's possible to replace most of the 74LS-series chips (plus CPU, VIAs, SIO) with HC/CMOS equivalents – I managed to find a 68HC000 and CMOS versions of the SIO and VIA. I'll definitely give this a try...

#Lisa#Nicolas
Picking favorites is hard for me but I love so many songs by LiSA and her live concerts are so incredible energetic and fun to watch, how can she not be a favorite of mine 🥰
