I'd really like to ditch Gnome and move to Sway or Hyprland, but unfortunately, I own an AMD-based laptop.
This means no thunderbolt for my multi-monitor setup, and I have to rely on evdi/displaylink.
There is a patch out there for Sway and Hyprland, but I can't make it work: they don't see my external display, even if the displaylink service is running and evdi module is loaded. Of course. on Gnome everything works fine.
I'm on Arch. Does anyone have a solution? I searched everywhere, but I couldn't find anything.
@e33io I picked #Hyprland over #i3 because it seemed a bit friendlier to newcomers, but I think I'm beginning to understand the general idea of how TWMs work.
The lack of utility apps is disappointing, though. Some things are just easier to do in a GUI.
Maintaining FOSS projects sucks.
A rant from the #hyprland creator that should make us reflect about the importance of donations and contributions to FOSS projects. Especially the ones maintained by a single person
I've a question for #Wayland#TilingWM users of the fediverse. Out of the two and be honest which would you use and why ?
I'm trying to find out if folk are just all about the eye candy or if there's more behind their reasoning. Oh and yeah I'm a nosey cow too. 😂 #SwayWM or #Hyprland
Looking at #hyprland wm recently. Looks ok so far, but the multi-monitor setup drives me mad!
why are the workspaces bound to a monitor? Only because I started the content of workspace 1 on monitor 1 doesn't mean I never want it on 2 ever again!
why does the mouse pointer move to the monitor of the activated monitor? Leave my mouse pointer be! It's hard enough to find it as it is!
Over 25 years in #IT has taught me one thing: the human-computer interface is fundamentally flawed. Our brains don’t process information the way #computers do - leading to wasted time, frustrated users, and people scared of #technology.
I found a really interesting piece by Jason Yuan where he offers one possible solution: a concept he calls #MercuryOS that focuses on INTENTIONS instead of applications.
NGL, it hurts my brain, but it could be the #future.
@tkk13909 I’m in the middle of trying out TWMs at this very moment. Thinking of going with #Arcolinux#Hyprland because it’s pre-configured enough for me to decide if I like TWMs without having to build a config from scratch, plus wofi displays icons and names instead of me having to memorize the short name of every app and utility on my OS. Don’t think I ever want to be that hardcore.
It seems X11 is really coming to a crossroads and turning into maintenance-mode software.
At this point, it runs fine even on my 12th-Gen intel machine, but if I ever get newer hardware (not anytime soon, obvs.), I might need to make the switch. :/
@hq1@RL_Dane As a #Hyprland and ex #bspwm user, I can say I don’t see much resemblance with bspwm. I think for that it would be #riverwm. Hyprland is more it’s own thing, as far as I know
@hq1 I’m using #Hyprland and my 2 monitors after configuring work fine and there is a way to make screen sharing work, I just haven’t fixed it yet. It’s all in #Hyprland’s docs
Listening to #linuxunplugged Swoon over Hyprland and fear I missed something. Last I tried, hyprland was just a less stable sway with rounded corners and animations (which I hate anyway) What am I missing?
@jacekpoz@hfaust I have checked out #Hyprland. It's got a lot of animations that I don't want, if I want to look at pretty graphics I'll put on a video. It also didn't do well with a 3 or 4 monitor setup, and can't be configured to handle tags as a single monitor-independent tagset (similar to #XMonad or #HerbstluftWM).
Well it took me literal months to get #hyprland working (not as bad as it sounds because that's 5-minute snatches here and there), but it finally came up (#nix, woo!) and porting over my basic config from #sway has taken about 15 minutes.
Ohhh man! After getting my #nixos#hyprland setup tweaked to my liking, I hopped back over to my MacBook for some project work.
Couldn't well leave it alone before falling down the #yabai rabbit-hole and completely overhauling my #macos experience...for the better of course!!! :apple_inc: 🤘 #dev#programming
I've settled on my final #Hyprland config for the time being...at least on my @NixOS laptop build! 🙃
I have a feeling that it won't be long before I find a way to add more goodness to it!!! #nixos#linux#dev
Oh, and @landel , @codemonkeymike ... I went ahead and uploaded the core home-manager configs for the GNOME-Hyprland setup I have on my one laptop...check it out! 🤘
@thomrstrom by all means, have at it! I've been enjoying using it on my #nixos laptop, and right now I'm updating my zippy little #archlinux mini-pc setup running a slight variation of it on #Hyprland 😎🤘 :archlinux:
Is this #Hyprland ? #KDE ? Both? Neither? I'm lost for words..
This happens when choosing "Plasma (Wayland)" in SDDM and it just shows a black screen so I move into tty1 and launch hyprland. I'll ask for help later, now I need to study...
After getting my second monitor, KDE Plasma was logging in to a black screen, forcing me to move to #GNOME, so far it's comfy with some extensions. I can not use #Hyprland properly on my second vertical monitor because it doesn't support the needed layouts1.
