The Adventures of J-Loy continue! We finally know what the game's name means! We know what Zero Dawn is... but how did they do it? We won't find answers just sitting around. Maybe it's just over the Horizon...
So, it now transpires that in the middle of the Horizon IT debacle Paula Vennells claimed that sub-post masters were likely to be tempted to steal by having large amounts of money in their tills...
when as we now know actually it was here & her associates who were tempted to steal by fraud by covering up IT problems they were aware of.
And just in case you had forgotten Vennells has served as an Anglican priest...
More evidence of the malice of the Post Office in the Horizon IT case(s) it brought.
What is interesting is how this whole situation is unravelling like an onion to reveal at its heart a vindictive & callous PO management who were prepared to collude with Fujitsu in covering up the problems with the software.
Its almost unbelievable that people could act this way... but then we only have to look to our political class to see where they got the idea from!
That's quite the smoking gun. For those who didn't follow, the UK post office used a faulty accounting software, and rather than investigating the software, even after being warned, accused people of stealing, leading to some cases of innocents thrown in jail and some suicides. I truly hope the people responsible for the coverup, starting with that Vennells character, go to jail, but alas elites are shielded from their actions... #horizon#uk
55.5 hours of what can only be described as "insanely variable rate framerates", finished #JediSurvivor on #steamdeck just in time to see how #Horizon#ForbiddenWest runs on it (not expecting miracles here, but since I already put in 100 hours on the PS4 version I don't need to be "wowed"; I just want to do the DLC they denied PS4 owners)
game's prerelease files are 98GB... why do they keep making games so damn huge?
The extreme financial problems in #Birmingham are less about the settlement of an #equalpay case & more about the disastrous implementation of an #Oracle IT system.
While this has been discussed publicly in the past, its worth emphasising its critical & central role in Birmingham's problems.... like the #Horizon IT problems at the Post Office, a large multinational #informationtechnology firm seems to be causing havoc with impunity!
#JeremyHunt giving advice to #Fujitsu (you may recall something about their behaviour in the #Horizon IT situation) on how to get (more) government contracts.
Yup, no consequences for Fujitsu even as #postmasters lives have been ruined.
[you can finish off this post with your own choice of expletives]
I'm sympathetic to blanket exonerations via legislation for #PostOffice#Horizon erroneous prosecutions, but I'm a little queasy about a Govt. legislating to quash convictions en-masse.
The Govt. will say that 'this will not create a precedent' in the very act of creating a precedent - Its not hard to see a temptation to do it again in a less clear-cut case.
it would be better for the #ruleoflaw, as the judiciary suggested, to have been fast-tracked batched appeals through the court system!
Another aspect of the proposed legislation on the quashing of #Horizon linked postmaster convictions, is as Joshua Rozenberg points out, if the list of those whose conviction have been quashed is not public, then those subsequently seeking new careers/jobs, may have trouble proving they no longer have a criminal conviction to their name....
It looks more like a Govt. saving face than a desire to provide (real) justice.
> It said the auditors had learned that authorised Fujitsu staff with the right database access privileges could use fake digital signatures or keys to delete, create or amend data on customer purchases that had been electronically signed by sub-postmasters. Fujitsu staff could then "re-sign it with a fake key".
Q. who do you believe, Henry Staunton (making a range of allegations about Govt. complicity in the #PostOffice#Horizon scandal), or #KemiBadenoch (denying them)?
I guess, it all depends on who you think has the most to gain (or hide) by lying.
I'll leave you to figure that on out for yourself.... [there may not be an easy answer]
Now that UK has (finally) rejoined EU's #Horizon#research programme, revived involvement has immediately his another bump in the road, caused by #Tory policy.
The limitation on #visas for scientific researchers & the high cost of obtaining entry to the UK for work, mean that while we are formally part of the programme, the return of #European researchers to UK based research projects is currently constrained.
The EU Commission is asking the UK Govt to ease restrictions... good luck with that!
@ChrisMayLA6 yeah this has been notable right from the start of #Brexit, not directly linked to #Horizon funding. Even for #UK based funding (e.g. UKRI) it's totally reasonable for potential EU candidates to think twice re coming
visa issues & costs
uncertainty if could stay longer if life circumstances change
Neither an issue if seeking employment in other #EU countries, so why go to UK?
Lesson = not all free movement was a bad thing, but way too nuanced for Mail / Express #ukpolitics
