With the media so obsessed with the eventual "waste" from green energy production - end of life solar panels, turbine blades, batteries etc, wouldn't it be great if they provided context?
There are 9000 oil tanker ships on the planet. 10s of thousands of petrol trucks. 10s of thousands of petrol stations. 10s of thousands of miles of pipeline.
All of which are environmentally damaging to dispose of.
Yet, never discussed in the media. Its just the green boogeyman.
"If #Biden continues his current course, extraction of the lithium, copper, cobalt, nickel, graphite, and manganese vital for a green-energy transition will come at the cost of Indigenous lands and trust... it could also cost Biden the election."
Does anyone know of any municipalities that have any local#solar incentives, with a particular concentration on businesses? Preferably in #massachusetts but I'll take anything. My local development and industrial council is looking at a solar parking lot canopy incentive but has no idea where to start.
"Endorsing countries include the United States, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Ghana, Hungary, Japan, Republic of Korea, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom. "
As Vinod Thomas (ex-World Bank) writes in the FT, at #COP28
'it would help to put front & centre the top 20 countries that account for four-fifths of all emissions, starting with China, the US & India. Although [these 3] have greatly expanded solar & wind capacity, they have also increased the use of fossil fuels — which is what matters to the atmosphere. The big emitters need to stop new coal, oil and gas projects'!
Only then can we really start to tackle the #ClimateCrisis
How Practical Is Hydrogen Fuel for the Aviation Industry?
While some hydrogen planes exist, it could be decades before you ever step foot in one for a flight. Aircraft manufacturers like Airbus have thrown their weight behind the technology and are aiming for hydrogen planes entering service in 2035. Boeing meanwhile is more cautious over the technology.
Could it be that water contains an almost inexhaustible source of energy, and above all, that it is within everyone's reach? And what if hydrogen would redefine the contours of our future?
Reminder that many a green delusions are simply impossible. Please watch the entirety of this video to realize how detached from reality many of those ideas really are.
I will personal point out that #hydrogen is going to be necessary for any serious green policy (not mentioned in the video). It is fundamentally needed to solve the problems posed by the other ideas.
More #FirstWorldProblems as my new hybrid heat pump hot water heater failed city inspection. Apparently the plumbers will have to redo the condensate drainage, as the plan of "empty the bucket" isn't going to cut it, it must go into a sewer drain or be piped outside.
Utterly ridiculous editorial in the FT today. As if offshore wind is a startling new discovery, rather than something the Greens and untold environmental organisations haven't been calling for for decades 🙄 😡
FT: "Britain turns to floating turbines to tap into ‘remarkable’ wind speeds
Industry preparing to take next step in pioneering a key technology in push to hit net zero by 2050" https://archive.is/bOgh0 #GreenEnergy#FFS#UKPolitics
Pricing heat pump water heaters, I will not DIY this since it involves gas lines on the old convention tank plus city inspections. Let the number crunching and hand wringing commence.
You have to wonder how many wind farms and other green energy solutions could be built before then and with substantially less money.
Vulture capitalism meets the sunk cost fallacy. #ClimateCatastrophe#UKPolitics#GreenEnergy
8:55am to 4pm was the dead-of-winter time when my #solar panels would begin offsetting the house load and charging the batteries, assuming of course a sunny day. Now it's 8:15am to 4:25pm, so it's slowly looking up!
Deloitte forecasts clean hydrogen market to hit US$1.4T per year by 2050
In a new report, Deloitte forecasts that the clean hydrogen market will top the value of the liquid natural gas trade by 2030 and grow further to US$1.4 trillion per year by 2050.
Just watched the latest video from @mattferrell which is extremely timely for me. I posted a blog post earlier today where I mentioned I was wanting to get a heat pump water heater, and a few hours later Matt posted this: https://youtu.be/abGiNL9IT54?si=w_GyCuD47w4Yn-H4
