Today I released Aviator 0.4.0 for #linux. Besides the audio filters, this is a special release because the version of SVT-AV1 I'm shipping features custom psychovisual optimizations & a new tune that seems to prove itself in real-world testing. My eyes agree with the metrics here, and this was only possible with #Flatpak, which lets me ship my own version of SVT-AV1 that is different from the system's. Look at that, a GUI outperforming most CLI implementations by default! #av1
This is interesting. I was looking at flathub.org and it jumped at me that most of the "Popular apps" were emulators. Looking at download stats, they seem to have increased a lot right around the 25th of December. That spike is not present in other popular productivity apps, such as Zoom.
I wonder if this is the effect of people receiving #SteamDeck s for Christmas then installing these tools to emulate other games.
Been using Flatpaks on Linux recently and it's been a game changer! Love how easy it is to install and update apps without worrying about dependencies. Plus, it keeps my system clean and organized. Highly recommend giving it a try! #Linux#Flatpak
We can't possibly maintain all plugins for Evolution ourselves which is why in 3.48 we made a change that allows to ship plugins as separate #flatpak extensions.
@libreoffice Thanks! (Can I claim a third pack by reporting a bug my patch introduced? :D)
I think Month of LibreOffice & the sticker packs are a great way to get more people involved long-term - after all the first patch/translation/bug report is often the most cumbersome one due to all the setup overhead.
Reading all those news about #GNOME dropping Console from core in favor of Terminal is very sad, as I personally use and love Console because it's pretty and doesn't have all those configurations that I don't need
@Daudix Honestly, I'm actually quite a fan of Black Box, it has extensive customization options (which I admittedly don't make use of) and it looks really nice! Also, it's available as a #Flatpak, which is a big selling point for me. I hope GNOME incubates it sometime soon!
After #ArmCord 3.2.0, I will not be maintaining the #Flatpak any more.
The devs refuse to stop relying on tray icons which are so blatantly broken on Linux. I've stated that I don't care if they have tray icons, but don't rely on them and assume they're available. If they don't fix either the spec or stop relying on tray icons, I won't be supporting them, be it fixes or maintaining it.
So either #FreeDesktop adds a new tray icons spec and everyone adopts it, at which point I will consider maintaining and contributing to ArmCord, or Flatpak makes a portal that implements them properly. but if ArmCord doesn't stop relying on broken behavior I will not be supporting it in any way.
In the meantime I recommend you to use the web version of #Discord.
Please remember that this browser is not even in alpha, it's in pre-alpha. And does not have all the features it'll have (If I even get around to it, never know, I could get burnt out =P)
After taking over the co-maintenance of Metronome from @KekunPlazas, I'm happy to announce a new version 1.2.1. This mainly fixes a problem in the last release, updating the runtime so that dark mode is now supported. It also adds some minor UI improvements and allows the metronome to be toggled using the space bar.
The new version should be available on #Flathub soon™
A link doing the rounds, trying to petition #Spotify to take ownership of the #Flatpak package for #Linux. In my opinion, they really shouldn't have used the "2 million downloads" number, because the vast majority of those are delta updates from the same people who already have it installed. There's ~110K machines with the Spotify Flatpak installed. They should have used that number, as it's more genuine. Also, they should speak to humans at Spotify, not use petitions. https://community.spotify.com/t5/Idea-Submissions/Spotify-should-take-official-ownership-of-the-Linux-Flatpak/idi-p/5578184
Experimenting further into this forsaken #SteamDeck bug of non-#steam apps either not being able to exit properly or #SteamOS simply not recognising that they've exited. Each of them were, twice, opened n exited to see how many would behave right "reliably" (spoiler: 0 🥳).
Update: there is a workaround to this that works every time, but only for "web services" such as #Google Chrome (#Flatpak) set to launch in Kiosk mode and opens up a specific URL eg. "https://www.google.com" or "https://www.netflix.com". The app will also need to use #Valve's "Web Browser" controller layout, but to do this can be ridiculously tricky for no good reason.
TLDR; exit using the left menu button (eg. the "Share" button on the #DualShock4).
I'm thinking that this controller layout (or whatever other layout really), can be repurposed to exit "regular" #Flatpak apps that have been added to the #SteamDeck interface. Except instead of utilising Control + W, we use Alt + F4. So far though, idk if i'm adding this shortcut wrongly to my controller layout, but my Alt + F4 shortcut does not work on these regular apps such as Signal or Spotify/Plex (app version), despite Alt + F4 working on desktop mode. Any ideas?
