I'd love to have an address book in Mastodon, where I can store users I'd like to check out or message every now and then. Right now, the only way to do so is bookmarking a user's post, but I'd much prefer an address book with names, profile pics and a custom note option, which I can pin as a column in the mastodon UI, ideally with an 'Include user bio' option.
The queer.af seizure by the Taliban should once and for all hammer home the importance of implementing automatic scheduled downloads of your list of followers and followings, and any way at all to download your archive of toots to migrate too, not just your social graph!
Mastodon might introduce a "proprietary", home-brew "No quote-toots allowed" flag outside the ActivityPub standard that probably won't be documented anywhere. Just like their "sensitive image" flag, but even more critical.
And if that happens, all Fediverse projects that have a quote-post/quote-boost/quote-tweet/quote-toot/share feature will have to have that flag reverse-engineered from Mastodon's source code and implemented a functionality that greys out the corresponding button under "no quote-toot" posts. And all their instances will have to upgrade to a version that fully supports that flag before Mastodon rolls out that flag. Or else Mastodon will defederate all their instances for being non-compliant.
This will at least affect Friendica and everything that can be traced back to it, including Hubzilla and (streams), as well as Misskey and everything that can be traced back to it, including Firefish whose development is dead and dozens upon dozens of other Forkeys.
If this actually comes, and if it's enforced immediately after release with no grace period, Mastodon could just as well fully be defederated from the rest of the Fediverse due to being incompatible. It'd cause a rift between Mastodon and the non-Mastodon Fediverse anyway because the former would have a requirement for federation which the latter is incapable of fulfilling.
I love the "press Shift+F3 to switch between all capitalization options" feature of LibreOffice and MS Office and just really wish it was implemented on a OS level so it just worked out of the box in every text box in every application!
IMHO it would be pretty nice if <ALT> of shared media were easy to copy/paste
for instance, when sharing https://carbon.now.sh/ generated images, the actual code is often in the the <ALT> and copy/pasting this would be tremendously useful
Little tip for when you're suggesting features to a project: "Feature Idea" sounds so much nicer than "Feature Request". Rather than sounding like "I want this, this is an order!", it's more like "Hey, this would be cool, what do you think?"
This also goes out to all the maintainers creating issue labels, by the way.
I've a big whish. Please add the possibility to follow a single person from another instance (which is potentially blocked by my instance), via the timeline feature.
It's possible to follow a complete Mastodon instance with #fedilab, but it would be nice to follow only a single account (like @potus), because following @threads.net makes no sense (for me).
This is a very small nuisance, but in Ableton Live, sometimes I end up dragging an audio clip onto a MIDI track, and it would be nice to have an option to convert the MIDI track into an audio track.
