Any recommendations for a (self-hosted) alternative? For a self hoste version I would really like the option to (securely) mirror it offsite (e.g team up with others and safe the data of each other. Ideally with E2E encryption)
@nextcloud looks most promising. But I don't know how the mirroring could be accomplished. The status and functionality of Open Cloud Mesh could be interesting.
Terrible user experience: Downloading or uploading a large number of files to or from #CloudStorage services like #DropBox and #OneDrive; I regret taking on this task.
Another item to add to my increasing feeling that I no longer love I.T. support.
I've been wavering on choosing a cloud provider to sync my data with. I really was hoping to use #ProtonDrive, but I really need a #Linux client. I was using #Google dive, but I really do not like how their system works.
So, I am going to go with #Dropbox I am not particularly excited to use them, but just yesterday, my wife needed an ID which she did not have. If my data was in the #cloud, I could have just shown it on the phone.
Oh #dropbox - why do you consistently and regularly continue to fail?
My new #ios phone has Dropbox and I have Camera Uploads turned on. Even though I explictely have the 'okay to run in background' switch on the app, and I've rebooted, restarted the app, etc - It still won't upload in the background.
Only when I have the app open will it upload.
Dropbox on #android did not do this. I'm expecting somethink screwy in the IOS app by Dropbox that's refusing to let this happen.
If you use Dropbox you should probably change your password.
Headline: #Dropbox Hacked! Threat Actor Accessed Passwords and Phone Numbers
Snippet: A quick analysis revealed that a threat actor had broken in to access customer information such as emails, usernames, phone numbers and hashed passwords, as well as general account settings and certain authentication information (API keys, OAuth tokens, and multi-factor authentication).
I am not going to argue with people but I am a paying customer of #dropbox and I am not a total clueless user (tho I'm not a tech person either); and I find this AI-query feature rollout confusing and not-reassuring about how they're using my data; and was alarmed to find the feature on by default.
(Reacting to a post accusing others of hyperbole/hysteria)
#Police in Plymouth Township, #Michigan are investigating whether a lighting system that was set up by a mystery person to flash when someone approached a #ballot#DropBox was an attempt to #intimidate#voters.
In particular WHY that particular method? need cross device/platform? 2 b available online? What (about this, or any method) are challenges to you? Do you struggle to organize your notes? What would you wish was better?
#psa Okay, learned a lesson today. I either missed this or the setting changed in an update. Both #OneDrive and #Dropbox have a setting for keeping all the files in the cloud rather than on your Mac, downloading them as you need them. This means that if you need them and the service is responding poorly, or you have no connectivity, you can't get to your files. If you use #scrivener, for example, which syncs through dropbox, this can cause sync errors between devices!
Both services appear to set all files online only. Both services have a way to change this to ensure all files are downloaded for offline use.
#Writers, #authors, as well as #artists, I strongly suggest you keep your files on disk as well as in the cloud. Change these settings now!
Hey #Dropbox, y'all need to rein in your marketing and web development team(s). I go to my Dropbox once every two or three months--and each time I end up having to learn how to use your website again because there has been so many changes. Please give me a basic file manager button, so I can by pass all of the BS website bloat FFS. Oy... :/
