I have an #eWaste problem that I would like to solve: two #dell laptops that refuse to boot. One lights up for a couple of seconds, before shutting down again. The other seems completely dead, even after replacing the battery. The laptops are otherwise in decent conditions and I would like to revitalize them for my kids as they come of age.
I have a Dell laptop, running Ubuntu 22.04, with the following buttons around the trackpad. The trackpad works, and the three above it work (left, middle and right click as you'd expect).
I want the ones BELOW the trackpad (4 and 5) to be left and right click. Currently for some reason the left one is mapped to middle-click. How can I remap it? The other one does nothing at all.
xinput doesn't even know those buttons exists, and tells me I'm running xinput against an Xwayland server.
Dell's Australia arm has been slapped with a $10 million AUD (about $6.49 million) fine for "making false and misleading representations on its website about discount prices for add-on computer monitors," the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced today. The Australian regulator said the company sold 5,300...
Does anyone know what physical security lock to use with my #Dell XPS 13 (9370)? The specs say "noble lock" but doesn't say what type.
I tried an #Kensington N17 but it was too large (although, what I received looked different to the product photos so I think I received a knockoff of a different lock)
Hallo Fediverse! Hat jemand eine alte USV von Dell übrig? Bei meiner ist gerade die Display-Einheit verreckt? Und dabei ist der Akku gerade frisch gemacht worden... Sie ist zwar via Konsole noch managebar aber ... Who knows.
🆕 blog post -- I moved my Linux Home directory to a second SSD and survived
I ran out of space on my laptop's internal SSD over the weekend. Most of the storage is used by my Home directory. Ugh.
Luckily, I'm running #Linux on a 2021 #Dell XPS 15, which is generally fantastic. And it has two NVMe slots inside. Even better: it's simple to crack open the laptop and add a second SSD drive.
I have had a new laptop for a day, and it's shit-hot!
Clearly aimed at gamers but the best spec I could find for development.
I went #Lenovo#Legion9 (max), rather than #Dell for the first time because the spec, and the fact my last Dell is faulty after 6 years (whereas my previous 15yr Dell is still perfect).
Lenovo support is poor, outsourced, unhelpful and knows less than I do.
Windows 11 was the only option, so no Ubuntu drivers. But ok, except the trackpad so far, USB devices on order.
Argh! My laptop screen is broken, and it won't recognize my external monitor. How on earth do I get Ubuntu to notice the new screen when I can't see what I'm doing? I tried turning on a screen reader, but I have to see what I'm doing in order to do that. My attempts to remote in or connect with ssh have failed. I think I might be able to get to a terminal by memory alone, but I can't tell if anything I run actually succeeds. Any suggestions on what commands to try?
I give props when due. Super props to Dell Canada. I thought I got a good deal on my new monitor, a S3423DWC Curved ultra wide USB-C hub monitor, when I bought it for $480 during Black Friday on Nov 24. Shipped Nov 27.
Well, for Boxing Day in Canada, it was down to $429. Took a shot in the dark asking for 30 day price guarantee on Dec 27.
Dell honoured the 30 day to my shipping day (Nov 27, and issued a $50 refund.
Well damn, I just fixed a problem thats been plaguing my the last 6 months.
Up until just now, Every time I rebooted my Mac Mini with the Dell Monitor attached via USB-C Display Port, it would hit the login screen and then kernel panic and reboot. looping.
Unplug monitor, wait for login screen, plug it back in, it was fine. HDMI - fine too.
So what was the issue? Logitech Bluetooth USB Dongle for my MX Keys KB + Mouse.
Issue occurs when dongle is plugged in via monitor, or directly plugged into mac mini. Unplugged, no issues with monitor.
The main problem now is in pre-boot environments before the Apple BT Driver loads - I'm thinking FileVault password and maybe a lesser degree - recovery partition. I'm thinking maybe just having spare keyboard for those situations.
If anyone can confirm if the Logitech MX Keys can be used to enter a password without using the Logitech usb dongle, it would be appreciated (I've already read plenty of older documentation suggesting it cannot)
AI Laptop REACTIONS! https://somegadgetguy.com/b/45Q
Checking out all the announcements today from Dell, HP, Microsoft, Samsung, Acer, Asus, and Lenovo! I did a live recording of my reactions.
Windows on ARM is getting REALLY exciting! Here are some things to look out for while shopping a new "AI" laptop!
