Dear friends, please help me make another completely insignificant choice.

My corded drill died so I'm finally allowed to buy a new cordless one. 🥳 Problem is that I found 3 identical drills:

  1. Bosch: https://www.gamma.nl/assortiment/bosch-18v-accuboormachine-universaldrill-systeembox-met-241-accessoires-incl-2-accu-s-1-5ah-lader/p/B162059
  2. Makita: https://www.gamma.nl/assortiment/makita-18v-accuboormachine-df488daex1-70-delige-accessoireset/p/B185462
    3: Black&Decker: https://www.gamma.nl/assortiment/black-decker-accuklopboormachine-bdchd18s2ka-qw-18v-104-delige-boren-en-bitset/p/B139587

Please help or I'll just sit in front of my screen and not get anything done today 💀

My proof-of-concept "Single-Unit Hydroponic Grow Bin".

I don't know if it will work. Follow this thread (for the next three months maybe) and grow with me... maybe... or just watch it fail... :P

The goal of this grow-bin is to be:

  • Exceedingly cheap (This comes out to around $11 a unit - reusable - and that's mostly the light. Each additional growth will only be a couple of cents per plant).
  • Exceedingly easy to make.
  • Have as little moving parts as possible.
  • Require as little maintenance as possible while the plant grows.
  • Not require any special space, set-up, or shelving.
  • Be able to stick anywhere you have a couple of inches of spare room indoors, even if you live in a very small amount of floor space.
  • Be powered by wall socket or by external USB battery (for folks that are charging USB batteries with solar cells).
  • If you want to grow more plants... make more of these grow bins and add them wherever you have juuust a bit more space.

This answers the obstacles of hydroponics being portrayed as requiring an expensive startup cost, having dedicated or expansive space for hydroponic growing, require special or complex equipment, or special knowledge and skills.

AND IT'S ADHD FRIENDLY!!!!

  • Start growing whenever you get around to it. Doesn't require following growing seasons.
  • Once you start growing, you can forget about it until it's done growing.

Note: This is an experiment. I don't know if this will succeed. But! I plan on tweaking it and correcting any issues as I test it out. So... I'm not showing you a finished product. I'm showing you the design and test phase. Maybe we'll get a finished product out of the end of it!

(Thread continues and will be added onto. Bookmark and check back every couple of weeks. - The next section will go into how to build this.)

Full stress mode. Need to make garage livable as the builders doing thr house renovation arrive Wednesday.... after we've been asking for a time frame for months.

Now it is my problem of course. Cheapest Bunnings cabinets (but glued also as the screws pull out of the chipboard they are made from) and their pre-made laminated timber bench top. This will be kitchen/laundry.

On today's episode of ✨️ Gina's Unnecessary #DIY Projects ✨️ We're building a kitchen island from wood scraps! Yaaay.

I need to get rid of these old boards and tiles in my shed, and my friend needs a kitchen island. Win win, right? 🔥

Current status: after some advanced maths I realized I don't have enough wood, so now the challenge is to find beams for the legs that look sort of similar to the rest of the wood. Aka "such a fun and cheap project wait how did this still cost me €100?" 💸💸💸

The table top (still had to be cut to size here)

Przygotowania do #Wyprawa2023 🚲 #rower

Zasilanie to podstawa, bym mógł pracować w trasie. Przymierzam panel, badam kąty przed ostatecznym wierceniem w przyczepce i montażem.

Zamiast stacji ładowania własna konstrukcja: akumulator żelowy, niedrogi kontroler solarny #PWM i rozdzielacz gniazd zapalniczki 12V.

A na koniec dnia zabezpieczam całą przyczepę przed deszczem.

To będzie długa podróż 🚀

Zdjęcia z różnych telefonów z 2 dni, sorki za jakość.

Chętnie przyjmę pomysły o zadaszeniu takiego zestawu, myślałem o przyciętej w trójkąt plandece :)

Na biurku przed otwartym laptopem akumulator żelowy 7Ah, solarny kontroler ładowania i listwa gniazd zapalniczki a w niej jedna wtyczka od lampki i urządzenie wielofunkcyjne: ładowarka USB, bluetooth, player z SD card i nadajnik FM :)

Balancing my time between work and planning my summer hobby projects.

Trying to figure out the best bang for my literal buck... trying to decide between a 4G/LTE/5G router, more solar panels, a second inverter... those are probably the largest purchases I'm considering.

Leaning heavily towards more solar panels having the biggest impact for my money. I've got 1400W now. Bumping that to 2100W would be a significant improvement.

Boring #DIY/#electrics question: can I disconnect this bathroom fan and make it safe just by removing the fuse from the switch box?

Or do I need to fully disconnect it from the ceiling rose, where it draws its power?

OR is it more complicated than either of those?

I'm nervous of DIY electrics, but also broke - would rather not have to call a sparky for something this trivial. But I will if this is more complex than I think.

[Don't answer unless you genuinely know please]

I'm thinking how to add it to the general grid, how to physically protect it, or maybe store an encrypted archive of messages, or just fill in the code from a regular node and they will not be in the general list, but they will fulfill their function. Need advice on a high good but not expensive Lora antenna that would overcome the range of the area of 5km

It's scalable....

I’m on an energy saving kick.
So far this month between the hours of midnight and 8am we are averaging 1.2kWh per hour of use.
I can only account for a max of 400Wh/hr and even that is a high estimate.

No ac on. All computers shutdown.
The only thing running is about 200w of network gear, refrigerator and freezer. And some phone chargers.

Something is drawing power that shouldn’t be 🧐

Hey European & American friends who use tools and do building, repairs, DIY – are Robertson screws common in your area?

Are Robertson screwdrivers common in European toolboxes?

In Canada I suspect that 99% of people who have tools would have Robertson screwdrivers in their toolbox. At least the red & green (#2, #1) sizes. The more intrepid will have the yellow and black (#0, #3) sizes too.

Afternoon . Warning - hacking may ensue.

This 15yr old (?) clock radio has suddenly stopped doing the one thing we use it for – projecting the time onto a corner of the bedroom ceiling. It's just out of view, unless you're looking for it.

Of course, once it's gone, you go nuts all night looking for it.

More about the unit…
