💡 Me: "the extent to which the TT team interaction modes are included and understood in other approaches (SAFe, unFIX, etc.) is a reliable indicator of the readiness of that approach to deal with true complexity in organisation dynamics."
Team interactions are key for navigating complexity.
It's always fun seeing some of my old work on display at the MIT Media Lab, and I was able to accompany the nostalgia with some talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist! (1/6)
Life, and its diversity on Earth, can be envisioned as an integral part of the story told by astrophysics and cosmology. Conversely, we may want to frame the structure and evolution of the Universe, and its various physical bits, with respect to the complexity of life and ecosystems. Let me explain this (very scientific) idea !
Grazie alle prefazioni di Paolo Aversa e Marco Fainello e per le interviste e i consigli di praticanti illustri: Sunil Mundra, Daniel Mezick, Sonja Blignaut, Chris Matts, John Coleman, Valerie McLean, Tiani Jones, e Carol Mase.
In 2021, research concluded that medical orthodoxy, such as ‘droplet dogmatism’, blocked the acceptance that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was mainly transmitted through the air, in spite of knowledge from fields outside infectious disease.
Established and institutionalized professional organizations too often lack the diversity of thinking necessary to deal with complex problems, such as a novel coronavirus.
Next was a fantastic talk by Noah Askin on how collaboration leads to novelty in popular music at the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems. Using Spotify data Askin shows how musical collaboration is a significant predictor of various novelty metrics via access to diverse ideas and/or exposure to creative alters. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFlHYr6MzZs (3/8) #music#creativity#complexity#networks
"In the theory of cellular automata, an oscillator is a pattern that repeats itself after a fixed number of generations; that number is called its period. A cellular automaton is called omniperiodic if there exist oscillators of all periods. "
While Israel has a right to retaliate after the violent Hamas incursion, I think the Netanyahu administration is now guilty of war crimes, for which he should go to jail. They've been utterly indifferent to the well-being of non-combatants and refugees. But recently there were internet claims that the horrors carried out by Hamas in its attack were actually done by Israel on its own people. Remember that Putin funds and uses Hamas. These claims are classic Russian disinformation. #complexity
Chaotic Harmony: A Dialog About Physics, Complexity and Life
This fascinating book written by Ali Sanayei and Otto E. Rössler is not a classic scientific publication, but a vivid dialogue on science, philosophy and the interdisciplinary intersections of science and technology with biographic elements.
My new piece for @thetransmitter. Why is treating brain dysfunction so ENORMOUSLY challenging?
Because it amounts to controlling a complex system.
Drawing from the history of weather research, I pose the question: Can it even be done? And 14 experts in complex systems chime in. Would love to hear your thoughts as well!
I’m looking for a meme/cartoon about #complexity / #opensystems that was popular some time ago, but I can’t find it anymore.
In the cartoon there were a bunch of people looking at a design claiming ‘they were done’, while 1 other person looked outside the room, saw the mess outside (bunch of squirly lines) and said something like ‘guys, are we sure?’
Does anyone know which cartoon I mean and can provide me a source?
「 In that sense, I’m a bit worried that we’re over-engineering everything just because we can. Something that a single person could understand in 1993 now requires a dedicated team with ten years of experience 」
One more from the heap of raw ideas and unfinished projects: This one from almost precisely 2 years ago, going under the working title "Computational Lace", but really a kind of fractal process based on an initial 2D SDF, creating a surprising amount of complexity from even the simplest seed shapes...
This is again one of these projects requiring a full size view to appreciate the fine structures emerging...
