I will never understand the mentality of people who dislike a YouTuber and then rant about it for months on social media, instead of doing something sane like, say, watching something else, making the content they want to see, or maybe touching grass.

I genuinely think that too much social media rots people's brains.

Mastodon vor/nach dem 37C3 hat mir eindrücklich klargemacht, dass hier die Minderheiten sehr laut sind. Das ist in vielen Bereichen auch gut, weil ihnen dadurch eine Stimme gegeben wird. Problematisch wird das allerdings, wenn es um Moralapostel oder outrage geht. Ich mag die künstlichen sozialen Dynamiken in solchen Bubbles kein Stück, vor allem weil nur allzu gerne schwarz/weiß gedacht wird (und es ist nie schwarz oder weiß im Leben). Alle reden immer über Inklusion und Diversität, bis jemand glaubt er hat Recht. Insbesondere wenn gefährliches Halbwissen im Spiel ist. Das war einer der Gründe, warum ich schon mehrere soziale Medien verlassen habe. Die Tendenzen finden sich hier leider genauso.

Ich rede hier jetzt nicht von links/rechts, sondern um Dinge wie COVID protection, AI art etc. Was haben sich die Leute hier echauffiert, dass so wenige Masken tragen, obwohl sie selbst geschützt sind. FFP2/3 regelt. Wer das nicht macht (trotz Aufforderung) trifft eine informierte Entscheidung - das sind alles erwachsene Menschen.

Dinge werden aufgebauscht als ob es das entscheidende Thema wäre, Lager werden gebildet die es nie gab und die auch genauso schnell in sich zusammenfallen. Aber Hauptsache, man hat drüber "geredet". Es ist sinnloser Diskurs, der an der Wirklichkeit vorbeigeht, weil sie schon drei Schritte voraus ist. Wenn die Katze aus dem Sack ist, braucht man nicht kritisieren, dass das nie hätte passieren dürfen. Es geht darum, mit den Konsequenzen gescheit umzugehen. Und Grundsatzdiskussionen sind da fehl am Platz - meiner Erfahrung nach ist das sowieso nur moral grandstanding ("seht her, ich gehöre zu den 'Guten'")

Mein Tipp, den ich allen ans Herz legen kann: Wenn du etwas aktiv ändern/angehen kannst, das dich stört, dann mach das. Aber keyboard wars helfen nicht. Wenn du nichts dran ändern kannst, dann reg dich nicht drüber auf und versuch es zu tolerieren (das heißt ertragen, nicht gut finden). Einmal seufzen, Facepalm und gut ist. In beiden Fällen kommst du mental besser weg.

there's something weird about git branches that "a branch is just a reference to a commit" does not capture and I've been struggling with it for weeks

like in this diagram I think most people would say that there are 3 branches (corresponding to the 3 commits at the top of the diagram), though technically in git you could have 0, 3, or 100 branches here, and it's not labelled so you have no way to know how many branches there are

(please don't try to explain branches to me ty)
