More detail about the secret B5 project yesterday... it will be an animated movie. Where and when to watch coming in one week. I have mixed feelings about this.
Will it be cartoon-style like the two Star Trek spinoffs or game-style like Halo or portions of Avatar?
Will it have an interesting and intense story line worthy of a study in intersectionality or will it be comedic and geared for kids or adult swim?
Time will tell but when seeing the news I was a bit disappointed it will be animated. Good quality on all fronts will be important to be successful.
I guess this is just more motivation to finally start watching the original series. (Been planning to do so for years, but haven't gotten around to it)
you wont regret it, seen Star Trek DS9 ? See where they ripped the idea from, the #B5 scripts were pitched to the Star Trek owners before TNT optioned B5
J.M.Straczynski:
"#BABYLON5 ANIMATED MOVIE coming from Warner Bros. Animation & WB Home Entertainment! Classic B5: raucous, heartfelt, nonstop, a ton of fun through time and space & a love letter to the fans. Movie title, release date and other details coming one week from today. #B5AnimatedMovie.
This brand new original animated movie is already finished and in the can. So it's 100% real, happening, and coming out very soon."
I am ridiculously happy to hear that a new Babylon 5 project is in the works - and not just in the works, but finished and will actually reach the air.
B5 was one of the most groundbreaking shows that few have heard of. B5 did serialized storytelling years before Lost. It did CGI years before anyone else. It was a show well ahead of its time.
It is sad most of the cast is no longer with us, but a new story is wonderful news.
I like #starwars
I love #StarTrek
But how weird and deep does my geekiness go? I would trade our nuclear secrets for more #babylon5 (Fortunately, no has seen fit to give me access to said secrets).
@itnewsbot I guess if you can't get a studio to pay for real-life action and sets, this is a great alternative. Look at the #StarTrek animated series. 🥳👏🙏🖖 #Babylon5
Today was the 30th anniversary of the first episode of Babylon 5, the genre-reshaping series blending politics and religion in one 5 year long story arc, mostly written by one person.
It was crazy hard watching this show - it was syndicated, popped up and disappeared for months at a time and was like nothing before it for the world-building and strong storyline.
Impeccably cast, hands down the finest low budget SF series ever made. Powerful stuff.
Today In History: February 22, 1993 - Babylon 5 first airs with the premier movie "The Gathering".
Lasting 5 seasons and gaining a loyal following, B5 set new standards for television - pioneering the use of CGI instead of models, and proving audiences could and would follow a series with long story arcs (paving way for shows like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Breaking Bad, and many more)
