I guess this is just more motivation to finally start watching the original series. (Been planning to do so for years, but haven't gotten around to it)
you wont regret it, seen Star Trek DS9 ? See where they ripped the idea from, the #B5 scripts were pitched to the Star Trek owners before TNT optioned B5
up until then tv was episode based, B5 had plot arcs spanning multi episodes & a couple that appeared in series 1 then not seen again to series 3
scripts for 5 series were planned in advance although the need to finish at the end of season 4 & the late unexpected pick up for season 5 kinda screwed the flow
there is the original pilot, redone pilot, 5 series, although series 5 kinda stands on its own plus 3? straight to video films. If you look online you'll see the official JMS recommended viewing order, TNT regularily showed episodes out of order.
plus many of the minor b5 cast members were in TNG/DS9 too under make up or as stunt people
