Please don't forge ahead with trying to create mutual aid offline communities, with pleas to public about how it helps BIPOC - without talking to or asking for input from us, first.
Please don't ever speak for us, when you haven't even made efforts to speak TO US, first. This is about respect for #POCvoices. I feel the same about disability rights fights - nothing without us; you need to remember to talk to us, first.
Really, really, really still trying to find My People here on Mastodon. Am I on the wrong server or something? I'm a self-employed #artist / #maker / #writer ... I make #ceramics ( #pottery )... dye #yarn ... #knit ... read #sciencefiction ... have two #dogs and eleven #cats ... am a recent #widow who loves to talk about what a wild ride #grief is ... and I'm a #Floridian scared shitless for my #BiPOC and #lgbtqia friends and family. Is that enough tags? Hello? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
I will be supporting the federal #NDP at next elections because I can't forgive #Trudeau over #Gaza#Palestine & can't get over #ForkedTongue on several other issues that are very important to me & many #Canadian#BIPOC voters
I don't even like NDP either but it's them or covert WS dude with a pretty face or full out fascist fuckers. Unlike USA - with no real decent election choices between racist sellouts - we still have some options in #Canada.
If you're a radical leftie & able to act in character - you can infiltrate far right groups without too much extra efforts. They're not too bright & they don't have as much public support as they want. They LOVE it when any POC can be #tokenized. They hate #BIPOC but will definitely exploit any BIPOC who are foolish enough to volunteer to stand beside bigots who would kill them, if they couldn't be tokenized for WS needs. I've infiltrated more than once & got several local BC fascists arrested.
1/2 One of my client projects is to help colleges and universities diversify their staffs, educators, and student bodies. The schools have been begging for help appealing to more #BIPOC youths. Why? Because they know it enriches the learning experience for all and makes them a more desirable choice for more people. #GenZ wants more diversity, not less.
Months in now to the great #MastodonMigration, and our community is being tested. Mastodon is not perfect. The interface needs polish, the feature set is a source of contention, and shiny new objects hold out promises to solve everything that frustrates us. But for all that, it is an amazing phenomenon. A rag-tag, people powered network threatens corporate domination of social networking. Together we can do this.
Anyone has any good resources on moderation systems, moderation in social media, and so on, especially focusing on making moderation work for #AntiRacism or in the context of racism? Generally, or fedi-specific?
Are you a #LGBTQIA And/Or #BIPOC and have a website, store or music page you want to share a #link for people to click on?
Would you have space to do the same for others?
Drop your site below, a small banner/icon and description.
If you want I can also add #PRIDE icons and Country/Nation Flags/Icons.
I will have a dedicated page for links of this kind. All I ask is you link my website https://nailsthatglow
in return.
Once I have a few links I will post the dedicated page.
I want to have links to all of your wonderful sites and projects.
Will also be interested in talking cross #promotion and more!
Loving Madtodon, but well, the #trans representation isn’t particularly diverse on my timeline.
Who should I be following? #BIPOC, #Non-Binary, #TransMasc voices are ones I need to hear more.
I’d also love to hear from more long-transitioned folks because heck, I don’t hear those voices much either (although I myself fit into that category).
Our community is diverse and I’d love to be able to engage with and lift up more of that diversity here.
Let's start a #mutualaid chain! Post any asks you have, particularly for #queer#trans and #bipoc communities, and we'll all try to help. To start, here's a cross-post from a friend:)
we as #furries should be working to elevate #bipoc voices both within and outside of the fandom regarding peoples lived experiences because they also affect us but they affect others who are a part of these intersectional experiences in a way worse way.
I just did a post on #Bluesky pointing out that the #A11y issues that impact screen reader users it’s had since Day One and the message we're getting from their developers is we aren't welcome there. This is particularly interesting as more and more accounts from Twitter, all of which concerned with human rights in some way, are going over there. Blind people may be slowly bweing left in the dark, particularly for info surrounding #BIPOC, #LGBTQIA! and #PopCulture matters. (1/2)
Just figured I'd let you know that I (and by extension the rest of the Tech Talk Thursday crew) have been nominated for a BIPOC Streamer Award in the Chatterbox category!
#a11y friends, looking for advice and I need #BIPOC perspectives. I teach the importance of including race in #AltText the standard default is so often assumed "white" that I stress the importance of representation in alt text but what do we do when we're not sure of the race we're describing? What if someone is white-passing? I don't want to exclude based on assumptions. How can we remain inclusive when facing some of these challenges when authoring alt text? Thoughts are hugely appreciated
Before you ask any #BIPOC woman why they're so angry - have you considered asking the same women about what experiences they've lived through?
Perhaps if you did that first, you'd not need to ask us BIPOC women why we feel angry because asking us about our lived experiences will fill in a lot more than simply asking us why we are feeling so angry.
It helps a lot - knowing how to communicate better & knowing what questions to ask instead of automatically assuming we're all angry for no reasons.
#BritishColumbia#CivilLiberties Association (BCCLA) has launched a new resource designed to support #students who are faced with a return of the School Liaison Officer (SLO) Program, or police in their schools. This new fact sheet contains information for youth rights related to searches and privacy, information on filing a human rights complaint, and safety tips for interacting with police at school.
Twenty years after #genocide began in the region, recent conflict and targeted violence have forced over 5 million people to flee their homes across #Sudan in just five months. In #Darfur , non-Arab unarmed civilians have been hunted down and massacred, according to eyewitnesses and survivors. Women and girls have been subjected to systematic rape, sexual violence and trafficking.
