Ok starting a new art thread for 2023! Here's the deal: a mostly daily thread with a different artist every day (sometimes I repeat from previous years if I feel like featuring other work/projects), primarily modern and contemporary since that's my thing. I'm even making a hashtag for it in case that makes it easier for folks to follow. Enjoy! #art#BigArtThread
Hoffnungslos.

New art thread for 2024 starts here! This is a mostly daily thread with a different artist featured in each post, primarily modern and contemporary stuff since that's my thing.
For the month of October, I'm participating in the annual #inktober drawing challenge. I'll be following some of the official Inktober prompts, but mostly the SciArt Inktober prompts. I will also be giving up my colorful inks and restricting myself to black ink.
Today, I'm following the #SciArtInktober prompt "lipid" and drawing some phospholipids.
My real worry with Google's voyage into enshittification (thanks to Cory Doctorow @pluralistic the term) is YouTube.
Through YT, for the past 15 years, the world has basically entrusted Google to be the custodian of pretty much our entire global video archive.
There's countless hours of archived footage — news reports, political speeches, historical events, documentaries, indie films, academic lectures, conference presentations, rare recordings, concert footage, obscure music — where the best or only copy is now held by Google through YouTube.
So what happens if maintaining that archival footage becomes unprofitable?
HELP: looking for sources on fascist aesthetics. Why fascists (Nazi Germany, other fascist countries, and current fascist movements) like minimalism, Ancient Greek and Roman sculpture and architecture, and “elegant” beauty.
📽️ What's a horror movie that you feel is so: striking, unique, disturbing, profound, &/or beautiful that it transcends to the level of ART?
(Not for just a scene, or moments, or even a performance, but for the ENTIRE film.)
Four that immediately occurred to me:
The Shining
The Devils
The Wolf House
There Will Be Blood
I can think of more but I'm curious what YOU all think...
I have to go eat & do stuff but I'll be back on later to see what you all said!
33 today, which is also the atomic number of arsenic, the last meal of all seven of my late husbands.
I don't really do birthdays, so here's a little discount across the shop for today only instead - enter the code AULDWAN at checkout to get 10% off all orders until tonight. All proceeds will go towards poisoning my next five husbands. https://www.ciaraioch.com/artprints
1/16 This July, I gave an invited talk in the "Communicating Science Through Art" session at the European Astronomical Society annual meeting, organized by the amazing @theastrophoenix . And I thought it may be something that would also interest you #fediverse folks.
The aim of the talk was partly to give people insight into my why & how of my art. But mainly to encourage others to just try. In a very subjective manner.
