#ClimateDiary I don’t know whether anyone else does this, but with so much I read about what is happening right now, like this on #Arizona and heatstroke measures, I can’t help imagining it both as a document read by later historians (“how it all unfolded”) and as a report from the future - ie, this is what I thought would start happening in the future, if we don’t do anything to prevent it.
It is a lot to process that this really is our reality, right now 1/2
It’s not summer yet, but more than 17 million people in the western United States are already under excessive heat warnings as temperatures climb 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit above average, with large swaths of California expecting to see thermometers hit 108F (42.2C). Meteorologists are saying the scorching weather is caused by a heat dome, when high pressure traps heat over an area, making it hotter the longer it lasts. The BBC has more.

It was red rock country, all right, but not limited to that. The surface of the rocks and cliffs caught light, absorbed shadows, in such a way that an array of colors set forth before the viewer.
And they didn't just stay that way. As the light shifted and changed, so did the colors of the canyon.
Nature refuses to be circumscribed and classified.
Who remembers that Clarence Thomas' clerk John Eastman was the author of the legal brief to overturn our election? Yep, Clarence Thomas.
John Eastman, who advised Donald Trump near the end of his presidency, was one of 18 people indicted alongside the former president for allegedly participating in a wide-ranging effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.
He is accused of trying to persuade Mike Pence to either delay Congress' certification of electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2021, or reject some states' slates of electors in order to allow alternate electors who would support Trump.
Eastman is also believed to be one of the six co-conspirators listed in the Justice Department's indictment of Trump, who was charged for trying to overturn the 2020 election. The co-conspirators, who are not yet named in the indictment, could still face charges. He is charged with election crimes in #Arizona and #Georgia
