I just spent two hours trying to get #Firefox to use #KDE Dolphin as the default file manager.
I went on a journey from .desktop files and mimeinfo.cache, through DBus, to .service files.
I shook with anger when everything seemed configured correctly, but Firefox would just not launch a file manager at all. Click that "show in folder" button and nothing happens.
I have now found the problem.
The problem was: systemd. :angery:
Why. Is. Systemd. Involved. In. Launching. A file manager. 👀
@kuketzblog Interessant ist die Brave-Empfehlung. Und dann die Verlinkung zum Wikiartikel in dem die Kontroversen um den Browser aufgelistet sind und doch recht deutlich zeigen, wie die Eigner Ihr Geld verdienen.
Oh this sounds like #Firefox will become a real browser for me soon. I wish they were ready already for the #ManifestV3 thing. But I guess it's good to know they're on it.
@royalrex@Sirs0ri That's one of my problems with Firefox. You need AddOns for so many things that should be standard. But because the market share is so low they're barely maintained. 😅
@kaiserkiwi@royalrex yeeeah, Firefox' add-ons definitely have their ups and downs. I like how so much of the browser can be changed by add-ons (looking at the browsing contexts/multi account containers for example), but I absolutely agree that some of these functions should just be default
@kuketzblog Vielleicht sollte man erwähnen, dass der Tor Browser nicht für das alltägliche Browsing gemacht wurde. Wenn man darin seine normalen Seiten besucht und seine normalen Account-Daten verwendet, ist der Schutz nicht nur nutzlos, sondern der ganze eigentliche Nutzen hinfällig.
Einen Beitrag zum Thema Browser zu veröffentlichen, ist mindestens genauso anstrengend wie zum Thema Messenger. Inhaltlich setzt man sich kaum mit den Aussagen und Erklärungen auseinander, sondern Stammtischparolen ersetzen dann eine ernsthafte Diskussion. Auf diesem Niveau möchte ich wirklich nicht diskutieren.
@bagder thanks for sharing! Wouldn't lack of the CNAME TTLs suppor introduce the problem? I can imagine setup where there are 2 A records with huge TTLs and single CNAME with shorter TTL that is used for failover, blue/green etc...

@kuketzblog@mozilla Man kann doch sowieso nur noch Forks nuzten. Egal ob z.B. Mozilla oder Cannonical (Ubuntu), keines kommt mir noch auf den PC/Smartphone. Ich wundere mich allerdings über Thunderbird, dass da noch nichts passiert ist.
Mike, was nutzt du als E-Mail Client am PC, oder ist Thunderbird safe?
@kuketzblog am Desktop nutze ich aktuell Firefox, ich mag das UI und hab selten Probleme mit irgendwas. FF wird weiter manifest v2 unterstützten und wird von einem non-profit entwickelt.
@kuketzblog Auf Android benutze ich Vivaldi. Ich hatte performance und Akku Probleme mit Firefox, darum hab ich Vivaldi ausprobiert und dann gemerkt, dass das UI/UX von Vivaldi unfassbar viel besser ist, als alles andere was ich bisher am Handy probiert habe.
Des weiteren finde ich gut, dass sie keine telemtrics einsetzen und eine Norwegische Firma sind die den Angestellten gehört.

Czy siatka, czy lista, to mniejsza, ważne że była ta konfiguracja, i dostosowując się do większego Chrome, zablokowali możliwość konfiguracji menu głównego.
OBY przywrócili konfigurację menu głównego w Firefox, nawet jeśli to tylko durny sposób kopiowania z Chrome.

Nice. Habe endlich einen Regelsatz für uBlock Origin gefunden, der YouTube Shorts zuverlässig entsorgt. Damit kann ich wieder eine Extension aus #firefox rauswerfen, die ich bisher dafür genutzt habe.

Is #firefox really the best way to sign a #pdf document on #linux with a touchscreen? I somehow cannot believe that even after trying 5 different programs...
@hendrik Well, open-source isn't PM driven. So the authors usually implement what they needed, or what they can reasonably easy implement. This the "scratch your own itch" connotation.
So if you like any non-Firefox to know how to sign a PDF you ...
a) most implement it by yourself (as it's your itch)
b) convince in nice words another one to do it for you. A bug entry might be a method, or speaking about on the IRC (or similar) channel of this very specific program.
For b), it helps if you can make the programmers job as easy as possible. For example, provide an example PDF. Describe how one would do this in Firefox. Give a URL pointing to some standard. Things like taht ... the less bureaucracy a programmer has to do, the more likely it is that he adopts your itch. Like being helpful instead of demanding.
It is my understanding that posts like "how comes that none implemented what I want" aren't really fruitful. They create tension.
@holgerschurig I'm absolutely willing to do a) on a limited range of programs (mostly spacemacs). However, for b) it goes both ways. Do developers make it easy to report issues and feature requests? Do they actually want to see feature requests or are those a nuisance for them? Users don't want to create the nth account on a custom bug tracker, waste time looking for possible duplicates on bug trackers with poor search functionality (I'm looking at you, bugzilla) and in the end run into a dev who poorly communicated the scope of their project to start with.
Do I want a non-Firefox way of signing PDFs? No, I already scratched the itch (signing the document and setting Firefox as default for opening PDFs). I'm just surprised that organizations like #GNOME spend development effort into #evince. But yes, I guess that's your point, it isn't PM driven...
I'm looking for an addon that will allow me to have re-openable windows/sessions that I can just save and close and come back to months later with everything still intact, so that I can clean up my horrific adhd pile of open-but-unused tabs by boxing up batches of tabs that are meant for one project or another.
