New hot take after spending countless hours going through years of accumulated paperwork at my elderly uncle's: every mailing that is an advertisement should be required by law to have the words "this is an advertisement" printed on both sides of the envelope or postcard, with FTC enforcement power.
The quantity of deceptive, time-wasting mailings my uncle has received is appalling. This simple law would fix that. #ElderAbuse#scams#JunkMail#advertising

Any ads we have on our sites for our own stuff are not tracked. In some cases, we donʼt even count the views on them (e.g. the ones that are hard-coded on the page). When they come via our #ad server, we know the count, but not much more.
However, we do use ad networks who track, so feel free to block their trackers or opt-out (links are given in our T&Cs).

Was discussing the neighbor's insistence that the gardeners kill everything yesterday ("they nuked the yard with Roundup" I said) and now my son is getting Roundup ads on Facebook. Yesterday, I mentioned one of my kids' names (which is very close to a brand) and that brand is being advertised to him, too. (I deleted Facebook long ago and will never load it or any of its software, because of that creepy snooping). Been tinkering about with rsync to automatically publish static sites. Found out some useful stuff after much trawling of Stack Overflow et al, so thought I’d write it up. I’m sure that future me will find this useful.
It has already proved useful to do this, as I needed a test site to check if a library upgrade to the newest version of the Lume SSG was working. I was quickly able to spin up a completely separate site to check everything worked Ok after I got the basic build sorted and error-free.
I'm thinking ITV is not getting the viewers for Red Eye that it had promised its advertisers.... what makes me think that?
The fact that in today's Guardian ITV has paid for an effective six (!) pages of advertising for the series - 2 x double page, 1 x full page, 2x x half page...
