Fortunately, this did not happen, but with everything becoming "smart", one day we will see a DDDoS (Distributed Dental Denial of Service)

zoid,

@catsalad I can see it very clearly. The perfect excuse for my kids.

Github banned its cofounder due to bug or AI-based automation. He is back now, but for couple of hours, his account was suspended. Yet, another reason to avoid Github?

zoid,

@nixCraft Imagine having all your business source code on there. People call me crazy for hosting stuff myself. But the last years have proved me right. I might be missing a few features sometimes and it is work to keep everything up to date. But I prefer to be in control of my stuff.

There is a noticeable decline in the number of active users on Infosec.exchange lately. Where are the cool kids hanging out these days?

zoid,

@jerry Sick in bed

zoid,

@nixCraft What the hell is wrong with us? 😂 we would rather drop the production database than work out.

zoid, to apple

I just realized something slightly troublesome on the whole ecosystem which is relevant to but also family sharing in general.
First of all, everyone in your family can see all apps you have installed, this could probably be turned off if purchase sharing is disabled, still need to check.
Secondly and what’s worse, kids can install these apps from the family sharing setting without approval even if app purchase approval is required.
Waiting for my daughter to find this out and ask me what this tinder app is for 🤦‍♂️

@EU_Commission
I just came across this new business requirement in Romania. If bringing in goods from other member states, it has to be declared in advance and presented at the border crossing when entering Romania. How does this align with the European free trade market? This makes no sense.

App performance monitoring service Sentry has updated its Terms of Service to give itself the right to use its customers' data to train AI models.

No opt-out option will be included.

https://sentry.io/legal/changelog/

zoid,

@campuscodi Looks like they dialed back a bit and I think it doesn’t apply to the self hosted sentry.

next time I torrent a bunch of shit because yet another streaming service has risen to claim what they believe to be their slice of the pie, I'm just going to say I'm using their shit to build an AI dataset

zoid,

@da_667 Good one. I will switch from the statement that I’m creating a backup of their work for them, free of free of charge, to the AI training statement.

Me asking Siri what’s the weather and then forgetting to listen to the answer is peak ADD

@zcutlip Then walking outside and it’s raining and most likely Siri said that it’s raining … yeah, been there.

It is so easy. LOL. Before binary packages in and , it was common to do ./configure && make && make install. In fact, I have an old page with over 250+ comments about readers' struggles to install such packages because of dependencies. https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/install-tarballs/

zoid,

@nixCraft And for some reason now I hear in my head, guns and roses singing: it’s so easy … easy …

Why does Apple Music continue to suck at suggesting music I might actually want to listen to? Maybe I have enabled some setting to make it obtuse, but it has to know by now what I listen to and what I never even bother with, and yet every time I launch the app it's just tons of whatever is most popular right now. Am I alone in this experience?

    zoid,

@briankrebs Fighting with the same issue. Rarely discover something really new and often happens that it just play me stuff that’s not at all to what I’ve listened to before and there is no “don’t play this artist” option.

Remember when "let me Google that for you" was a neat, although sarcastic, way of telling people that they could easily find information on the web if they took a moment to look for it?

"Let me Google that for you" would now mean something like "let me relieve you of the burden of combing through an endless series of useless, spammy, ad-laden, malware-ridden, AI-generated websites in the vain hope of finding an answer to your question."

    zoid,

@WJBL @bodhipaksa I’m currently going with startpage.com I never could get the results I wanted with DuckDuckGo, but didn’t use google since over 2 years.

    zoid,

@bodhipaksa @WJBL I must admit I didn’t know about google books 🤦‍♂️ this is embarrassing

Fargo is a great series. Does justice to the movie. I felt Season 4 was a little weak, maybe due to the pandemic? But other than that, strong recommend! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_nice

@codinghorror Kind of missed S5, started watching yesterday and couldn’t stop.

    tinker, to threads

So... I get banning the Threads server. I might do it myself, actually.

I get leaving an instance that doesn't ban Threads to join another instance that does ban it. Cool, migration is a feature of the fediverse.

But... don't ban servers that don't ban Threads. Like... that's some weird Civ III peer pressure bullshit.

I probably will ban Threads from my account. But I'm not leaving infosec.exchange. @jerry does entirely too well at server administration and this entire instance is comprised of too many people to be of one mind.

Like... we can all agree, no nazi's and racist shit, right? But politics and socio-economic models... fuuuck.... there's no way.

And I really want to talk with y'all. And I really really really don't want to spin up my own instance right now.

So. Ban Threads. Don't ban Threads. Instance wide or individually. But don't balkinize each other because of each other's stance for/against/indifferent Threads.

    #Threads #ActivityPub #Fediverse

    zoid,

@tinker exactly. Instead of all bashing on @jerry and other admins better spend the time writing a blog post explaining how everyone can block threads or where and how to check what your instance will do and if one chooses to want threads they can still do so and move to a different instance. The instance admin spends an insane amount of time and money and they are under no obligation, even if you’re donating to the instance, to do anything. It’s fine to disagree and just choose a different instance or start your own.

    zoid,

@herrorange @nixCraft Read that article after I saw the video a few days ago and had similar thoughts. Probably I’m not into generating an influencer but gave the existing stuff a spin, things that are free or open source and wow it was so scary how good the results where. Even video was so scary good.
