I've listened to the new Bonk Knob remix album twice already and it's fantastic. Oh yeah, and it's also freeeeeee!

Trying on an image. This is not really the expected result.

@kandid it looks pretty cool though!

I’m trying to buy myself a cassette walkman to play cool independent releases and MC Hammer tapes on and man is hard to get something that works well!

So far I've bought three and all three have been duds.

I've tried a cheap one that plays okay unless you move it around at which point it's like the bass is being fiddled with. A mid-priced one that played in one channel only and a more expensive one that randomly mixes up the functions of the microswitched buttons. 😤

And now the tabby and white enters the frame… So much drama this morning.

@decibyte @mxtthxw

Are you familiar with the music genre: Imaginary Detective Show Theme Tunes?

I think Tabby & White could be a good contender.

A conversation I had a couple of years back lead to the creation of ‘Whimsy & Rage’ a short-lived (imaginary) detective show from the 1980s. I then of course had to make the theme tune: https://yourfriendpete.bandcamp.com/track/whimsy-rage-were-in-this-together

Just finished ‘You are the music’ by Victoria Williamson. It’s an interesting read if you’re interested how music is interpreted by the brain and how it can affect behaviour and mental state.

One hour from now at 8pm UTC+1 (7pm GMT if I have my time zones right) there’ll be a music radio show happening which I’m lead to believe will be fairly eclectic and quite exciting!

It’s hosted by enigmatic German time traveller @herr_irrtum and there’s going be new music from me and @limebar

I’ll be listening (and you can listen too if you like) at https://www.alex-berlin.de/radio/15-live-auf-91.0

Thanks for checking out my first full-length album which is out today*. I kind of made it by accident but as I usually overthink things that made a nice change.

Sounds on the album include! #electronica #melodichouse #breakbeat #experimental #frognoises #jamuary

*and today happens to be #bandcampfriday which means if you did fancy picking it up I'd receive more of your hard-earned cash.

Friday at last! I have some new music to share this - it's a poetry/music collaboration with my friend Andy Stockton from Sheffield.

The full release is next Friday, but we figured we would open up preorders now in case anyone is adding music to their Bandcamp collections today.

@socool this sounds amazing! Looking forward to the rest of it landing next week.

xylander,
@xylander@mastodon.social avatar

@socool oh haha! Well that’s disappointing but only because it sounds so good and I was hoping for more. 😂

Really good work!

xylander,

@axwax @socool

Yeah, if there could be an EP of this poetry electronica sound I’d be very into that. (No pressure of course 😁)

Finally, for #Jamuary 31st, a track that feels like the last track of an album, because that's what I'm going to do with all 31 of these. And as I often do, I save some of the best for last.
It's calm and chaotic, moving and hard-hitting, a sonic feast whipped up in only one day. Enjoy; I know I did.

xylander,
@xylander@mastodon.social avatar

@Traiken woooah, I really like the dark melody and vibe of this. I hope you won’t mind me saying it reminds me a little of some of Trent Reznor’s more contemplative work. I mean that as a genuine compliment!

For #Jamuary 30th, I took a stab at a kind of 90's dance/jpop thing. I have been laughing with disbelief and glee all day that I made this thing happen.

xylander,
@xylander@mastodon.social avatar

@Traiken the chord progression is perfect. When the piano stabs come in I’m right back in 1994!

xylander,
@xylander@mastodon.social avatar

@Traiken indeed. And the rhythm used to play the chords feeds in to that too.

My new method of self promotion is just to shove my band logo on meme things like this and then release them back into the wild.

Is ‘Tronald Dump’ taken? That might be good for side project that sounds… y’know…

Shit.

Oh hang on, there’s already a Tronald Dump. I feel bad now.

For #Jamuary 28th, this track starts in a sad place. Who's to say where it ends up. Who's to say where any of us end up.

@Traiken Oh I like this! It feels like a soundtrack to a Haruki Murakami novel to me.

I hadn't meant to return to the breakbeats again so soon but I started with a sample of a rusty metal gate I recorded on my way to the shop, added a distorted recording of my noisy neighbours latest party (which turned into a dirty bassline) and the breaks just seems to fit.

@Traiken cheers. I’ve been walking through it several times a week thinking ‘I should record that’ and then yesterday realised I can just do that now on my phone. 😁

@xylander@mastodon.social avatar

After yesterday's experiment with rave I decided to dig into breakbeats so today's track is 100% drums. It’s an interesting creative restriction to make a track without any melodic elements.

@n3wjack I do but not very well. I listened to one of his albums maybe 20(?) years ago but not sure which. I’ll have a listen for sure! Thanks for the links. :)

xylander,
@xylander@mastodon.social avatar

@n3wjack I’m listening to Ni Ten Ichi Ryu right now and thoroughly enjoying it. It feels familiar so I probably heard it back then and forgot about it. I like the idea that all this stuff goes into your brain and mixes about before re-emerging years later.

Actually, I've just remembered a Japanese hip-hop album I loved from back then which has a similar sound palette to the Photek track. Have you heard this before?

xylander,
@xylander@mastodon.social avatar

@axwax @n3wjack oddly enough that video has now gone for me too. But yes, it was the full album that you linked to on Discogs. Sadly it doesn't seem to be on streaming services but it's worth picking up second hand as the whole album is great.

Listening to your mix now AxWax 🔥

I've not done for a couple of days. I wasn't sure if I might be done with it after creating something almost everyday for 3 weeks but I was inspired to try doing a little (fairly) relaxed ravey thing. So here's a short demo I'm calling Dream Chaser.

I’m starting my day today by listening to the latest edition of Comes With MP3s hosted by @JohnBloor - I’m three tracks in and we’ve already had crunchy guitars, abstract electronics and melodic modular synths.

If you enjoy discovering interesting and varied new music this is a highly recommended radio show!

I was feeling pretty burnt out on so I decided to try something totally new to me today... generative music. After watching a great tutorial (linked in the soundcloud description) I made this. It's basic but I'm excited to experiment more with soon.
