LA food diary.

Some of you know I’m a big fan of LA food. I think that dollar for dollar you get a tremendous amount of cuisines, varieties of foods, in this melting pot which feels to me like it has far more immigrant and working class food than the Bay Area. Even the density and quality of ‘fancy food’ is high!

I’m keeping a record of my LA 2024 discoveries.

After playing a couple of big PS5 and PC games I find myself a little burnt out on big AAA games. Some of them are very good but I am tired of endless questing and adventures. I just remembered how much I like small games (I especially like resource management sims) so am spending more time on my Switch. Kind of feel the same way, I think, towards restaurants, life and other hobbies.

I’m having a lot of fun starting even more things!

I just started a 6 weekend typography class. I am the only not-designer person. I will probably not be ‘good’ at it but that’s okay. I wanted to take my first ever design-adjacent class!

I also just started a swimming class. I have a deep fear of swimming due to some childhood incidents, even though I really loved it before that. Swimming without expectations feels freeing

My mission this year is to buy pants that won’t break or have holes. I don’t understand what I’m doing that all my pants have holes. I do Asian squat a lot, but I think it might just be that I haven’t been paying attention to quality of materials and things like that.

I don’t ’like clothes’. Very apathetic to fashion. But I know I am morally opposed to fast fashion. So I’d really like to get something that lasts.

Is workwear the sort of thing I should be looking at? Like Carhartt or Duluth?

As an #ActuallyAutistic person, I had many difficulties with #food when I was younger. Many vegetables were extremely difficult for me, because of sensory issues.

Somehow I ended up writing about food, for a job (in the past). It became a special interest. With repeated exposure to things I don’t love. I have learned ways to turn them into things I love.

I never loved salads, but I realize (1) I don’t like salads other people make (2) if I make my own, I can decide what goes in it.

This is the best frozen har gow. It tastes better than many lower end takeout dimsum spots in San Francisco. Just steam or microwave it yourself at home.

I know this because I’ve eaten many bad frozen har gows before finding this one!
