tube amp question:

(5w 12AX7 EL84)

My first and only tube amp, is intermittently (like gusts of wind) making a noise like radio static.

Is that a thing tube amps do?

Do tubes burning out make that sound (I imagine not, they probably just stop working, but I don't know)?

@eyesquash Tubes normally do not make odd noises. As they are burning out, they may make noises. Noises may also be an indicator that something else is breaking. Your power tubes are way more likely to burn out than your preamp tubes, for what it's worth, so if it were me, I'd replace the power tubes, and if the noises continue, I'd take the amp in for service somewhere with a good amp technician.

Does anyone know how to correctly clean the neck and fretboard on the Charvel dk24s? I read there’s a slight satin finish that could be damaged by steel wool. :blobcatcoffee: Thanks!

@ambergrey Do not use steel wool on wood, unless you aim to modify the finish (e.g. take a gloss neck to a satin neck). If you need to polish frets, mask your fretboard and your pickups with painter's tape. I suggest Philip McKnight's (Know Your Gear) Youtube videos on guitar maintenance (https://www.youtube.com/@PhillipMcKnight/), he's got great how-tos on just about every aspect.
