Looks like we have a new spammer to annoy us. This one poses as the official Mastodon account and then sends people DMs about buying crypto. Unlike the "thegx" account, this one has figured out not to use the same name each time it creates an account on a new instance, so it's harder to catch all the new ones that pop up. If you see an account like this, please report it and forward the report to the home instance. Thank you to everyone who has already reported these accounts. I'm not responding directly to every report, but I am suspending the accounts as soon as I get reports on them.

We had an issue with the images being broken again, starting last night. The certificate I use for the reverse proxy that handles connections to the S3 bucket expired, so connections to any media under the subdomain of media.beige.party was being treated as untrusted by browsers, because, well, it was.

The fix was simple enough: manually renew the certificate. I thought I had it set to auto renew through Let's Encrypt, but it looks like something went wrong with that process. I will work on getting the certificate to renew automatically in the future, but really that's just a matter of my own convenience. The main issue is making sure it doesn't expire unexpectedly again, which should also be pretty easy because the cert has an expiration date. I have set an alarm for myself to check the cert before it's set to expire the next time, so I can be sure to manually renew it if necessary so hopefully we don't have this problem again in the future.

As you are probably aware, we've got a spammer running wild across the fediverse, setting up multiple new accounts on different instances on a daily basis. They are easy to spot because each time a new one is set up, it refollows all of the same accounts, so if you've seen a bunch of follows from accounts with usernames that are some variation of "thegx", that's what's going on.

Please report these new spam accounts as they pop up so I can get them all blocked. Also, please DO forward your reports to the home instance. They should also be informed that they are being hijacked by a spammer. Thank you to everyone who has already submitted reports on these accounts. I haven't replied individually to each and every one because then I'd be spamming you, but please know that I appreciate it, and I am suspending all of these accounts as soon as they come to my attentions.
