I created this Mastodon instance because the indie author's journey is hard-fraught, painful, and sometimes lonely.

My goal is to energize authors to share, teach, and collaborate, raising the indie publishing tides for all of the community. We share hope from our successes. Because a wonderful life derived from our creativity is possible.

Oh, I write edgy, speculative-scifi-fantasy-paranormal-military-sapphic-romance-[heretofore not yet genre classified].

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

Ya'll, PLEASE throw me a bone here and reply 🙏 . It's Steaphan here, trying to support authors-helping-authors.

The @indiebot was made to provide useful information services to #IndieAuthors and #Readers4IndieAuthors through public or direct toots.

What types of services would be helpful on here for the #SelfPublishing #Author ?

Today, it posts indie author titles and allows people add theirs and query for titles.

Let me know.

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

Wrote 400 words for Sun today, and I am very happy with that. Hope many more will follow this weekend.

I did get some downloads from Writer Brain for book #9, Spirit Sings. That was a bit of a motivation, as well. Things will get a little more complicated than I thought, but I like the added layer. (Yes, vague, sorry.)

Very tired tonight, will read a bit and crawl into bed.

#WordWeavers 12/30. Do you give your stories any epigraphs? What are they?

I don't.

Honestly, I'm too lazy. In full disclosure, I often don't even read them in books that have them. I want the story, not something that doesn't impact it directly.

Sorry guys.

I feel exactly the same way. It's almost like adding pomp and circumstance to a story. If it's part of the story, then put it in the story. If not....

We need more motivational #IndieAuthor success stories around here. And by 'success' I mean you consistently have new people reading your books.

Hearing these wins is all I need to keep the flame 🔥 lit.

Can the trope of bisexuals cheating on their partner fucking die, please?

Just watched #FallOfTheHouseOfUsher with my server and lo and behold, there it is. It's one of the things I didn't like about the new #InterviewWithTheVampire series either.

Also, I can't help but feel like the sexuality of the Ushers (bisexual, promiscuous, cuckolding???) is supposed to emphasise that they are bad people. Very disappointing.

This article is shocking to me. I'd always assumed stand-ins were used. With all of the demon-possessed makeup, I would of thought they could have had a stand-in for ALL of the adult scenes. No movie is worth that.

Writing for me is like panning for gold; it's a long, slow process, and every grain (word) counts. So, yep, I know exactly how many words. I operate in a word-scarcity writer economy. :fox_think:

Connect your author and writing-centric Mastodon instances. Indie Authors Social has upgraded our relay to provide better connectivity.

Relays allow low-traffic sites to benefit from the increased connectivity of high-traffic instances. Thus connecting authors better.

If you are Mastodon Instance Administrator, please send me or Admin a toot to have your instance allow-listed for the relay.

This will be a fun poll to finish before this week's Grammar Girl podcast:

What do you think of the way "contact" is used in the following sentence? Is it acceptable in formal Standard English?

She called an officer at the Naval Intelligence Service, who in turn contacted the FBI.

I'm not asking if you'd use it yourself. I'm asking if you'd think it was wrong if you saw it used this way in a textbook or a serious magazine.

    steaphan,
    @steaphan@indieauthors.social avatar

I'm very worried that my "no" is wrong because it clearly seems so correct to me.

Mignon, thank you for your podcast "Say hwat?! 'Anxious' versus 'eager.' Pink stein.".

I learned some great tips from your discussion on discourse markers. I will use some in my story where the space pirates use Old English phrases.

    Two questions:

    1. I presume the rule stands that discourse markers should be used sparingly and probably only in dialogue.

    2. Is "Ya Knowin" the Old English "ge witon"?

The idea that your only value, is determined by what you produce is as archaic as the idea that women have no value beyond their husbands.

Your value is in your uniqueness and the way that you treat others. It's in who you are and how you interact and move through the world. It's in the brief kindness that you afford strangers and the love that you show to family and friends.

No one will remember you for how many widgets you sold, but they will for the ways you touched their hearts.

Hi Mignon! What is the grammatical, dialect-related "thing" behind pronouncing the word "important" with the first "t" being silent (e.g., "imporant")? I hear this frequently pronounced in this way with roots ending in "t" and suffixes usually ending in a consonant.

In the olden days, I remember teachers saying "annunciate" Is that all it is--poor annunciation?

Great‼️ Thank you. I am creating a new fiction character and she will frequently speak with glottal stops that will drive the protagonist up the wall.
