the breen primarch from discovery's new season sounds way too similar to Lord Zedd from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Although somehow he's an even shallower and more one-dimensional villain than anything the power rangers have ever faced.

my new burger restaurant concept is inspired by modern software. the options for mayo are "yes" and "maybe later", and if you pick maybe later, the chef stands at your table with a squeezy bottle, threatening to add mayo to your burger when you least expect it

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@Ninji "would you like mayonaise?" YES "please enter your username and password" "to verify your identity we will need to send a six-digit unique code to (XXX)-XXX-XXXX. This may incur additional carrier fees. please click 'OK' to continue". OK. "please check your phone and enter the six-digit one-time-password we have just texted you" XXXXXX . "Thank you. to prove you are a human, please click all of the below images which contain a car."...........

I boosted a thing about microsoft not letting you use third-party controllers on the xbox anymore, and I guess they're justifying that with "prevents cheating" or whatever and, like, cheating-wise

the machine lives IN PEOPLE'S HOUSES

I don't think you can ever overcome that. Play around with maths and touch computers all you want, if folk wanna cheat badly enough then The Machine Is In Their House, ain't nothing you can do about it. None of what the manufacturers try has ever worked for long, and nor will it, because The Machine Literally Lives In Your House FFS

I'm generally not a fan of AI but one thing I'd really like that seems like it wouldn't be impossible for a machine learning system to do...
give it a compressed file and an uncompressed file. Generate an algorithm to get from one to another

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@foone this seems like the sort of thing where it would just be a smartass and fwrite the complete contents of the uncompressed file.

[Discussion] Nearly all anime is copyrighted. What gives?

Frankly, I’m kind of sick of it. Is it because non-copyrighted pieces of work are not sustainable for large publishing houses? Not to mention manga is too. It’s not much of a problem when it comes to individuals, but companies which probably lobby for “eternal” copyright (I know Disney does but that’s not Japanese)....

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@razrabotka uhhh...is this unexpected? Nearly all Western animation is copyrighted too. Steamboat willy isn't even public domain.

my dream is that some electronics company would start making CRTs again.

Like, there's already a significant demand from the retro gaming crowd, a CRT thats in good condition in 2023 is a treasured commodity. It's well acknowledged that a lot of older <= 6th-gen games look best on CRT.

And then you look at all the people who demand to listen to their favorite song on real Vinyl the way it was meant to be heard.

So maybe some of us want to watch I Love Lucy and Seinfeld on an authentic CRT.

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@alphacyberranger I don't watch AoT, but i must know: why is every season of this anime always the final season?

Haven't they been on the final season for like half a decade now?

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@alphacyberranger NGL, i didn't even know there was a strike until this post.

Netflix One Piece is the first western show I've seen in over a year that I actually like.

Maybe it's just me being a weeb but I feel like Hollywood's influence is greatly declining even in America. The last time there was a show that everybody I know watched was Stranger Things season 4 and that was more than a year ago now.

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@CluckN weeeell, last big American show not last big show. But yeah, i don't really keep up with western pop culture outside of video games and so maybe I'm wrong there.

I guess now that i think of it there was also the one about jeffrey dahmer on Netflix? I think that was pretty popular but tbh i got kinda bored after the first episode and also i felt kinda guilty because i know the victims' families were all pissed as hell at Netflix.

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@RickyRigatoni @nul sometimes i fantasize about what Dragonball or Gundam could be like if they were filmed in live action by one of the big tokusatsu studios like tsubaraya or ishimori

snickerbockers,
@snickerbockers@freeradical.zone avatar

@mo_lave i tried it out and it was kind of disappointing. She didn't really "seem" like Lain, just chatGPT.

Granted I don't actually know what she'd have to say to seem authentic...but this ain't it.

Also service is unreliable, i have to send her each message several times because the server is overloaded.

Those cels they're raffling off make it tempting to sign up, except i know i wouldn't win. I'd give my only remaining leg for an authentic production cel from Serial Experiments Lain.

In Ukraine, Olympic dreams are a painful balancing act

Two prominent Ukrainian athletes told NBC News they would be willing to sacrifice their medal hopes rather than compete against Russians and Belarusians in Paris next year.

If the Olympic committee let Russia and Belarus compete, I will never watch the Olympics again!

snickerbockers,

@Free_Press i cant boycott the olympics because i stopped paying attention to it a decade ago when they stopped showing it live in the US.

Also in general i hate how the US coverage always gets sidetracked with these dumb "lifestyle stories" about the atheletes and the host country instead of just showing the events. NBC wants it to be less like a sporting event and more like a reality TV show.

snickerbockers,

@ifixcoinops GOG is pretty flexible about installation paths.

Anyways, I don't ever want to go back to the early-00s era of installing games, where all the data is on your HDD but they still make you fetch the fucking CD-ROM every time because game industry execs think that inconveniencing paying customers will somehow deter software piracy.

one of my friends had a shareware CD drive emulator that let him mount .iso images in windows so he doesnt need the disk, i was so jealous.
