Beloved #miniaturepainting people. Any of you using Vallejo Xpress colours? If so, do you know how much do they take to fully dry?

I just completed some minis, and around an hour later decided to varnish them and the paint was stripping in some spots. Never happened to me that with normal paints and with that very same varnish, so I assume it has to do with the Xpress colours. 😢

Any experience like that?

@lautmaler that's not my experience with them, but I never brush on varnish. I'm assuming that's how you applied it? Also I've seen Warhipster on YouTube test their durability and he didn't have any issues either.

Got a new router sent to me by my ISP :telenor: and now I don’t know what to do: replace my existing one or not.

My existing one is a shop-bought ASUS router which was good about 10 years ago. It works. 🤷

The new one is branded and probably limited by the firmware of what you can do with it, but the technical specs are better. 🫤

What would you do?

@matt the question is what features do you need? You can always plug the new router in and explore the firmware to see what it's capable of.

Tonight I went back to hunting not lines and fixing gaps. I used both my sprue goo and some milliput, so I can compare. They're both sitting but I'm different ways. The goo was leaving threads of plastic (I think it was too thick), and was very hard to guide.
Milliput was too sticky and I had to prepare way too much for my usage, it was also starting to dry. I still preferred it. I added some solvent to the goo, see how it goes next time.

@rushputin @Moah I do this with my super thin cement. I wipe the brush on the rim of the bottle, so I don't flood it, and use it to feather the edges.

Well, over the past few days I’ve managed to knock out all of the remaining parts of the Kraken (except the eye lenses, always forget those).

Think this is up there as one of the best models I’ve painted. Happy with all aspects of the paint I put on it, just need to get the base right really…

Finally felt the kiddo was old enough to watch this one last night. It is still undeniably the best Batman film that has been created to date, animated or live action. Well deserved 100% Tomatometer from critics and a 92% audience score. I challenge you to watch this movie and not get choked up by the extremely emotional ending. Trigger warning for parents who have lost a child.

TL;DR How to create a "save/restore" point?

I'm quite happy with the acrylic skin tones on a piece - and next up, I need to apply some woad "tattoos".

I've not done anything like this before, and am fairly sure I will mess up several times, so want to be able to remove & try again when I do.

My current idea is to put a clear gloss enamel layer down with the airbrush to protect existing paint, then do tattoos.

Is that the best route?

@crafty then probably a matte coat over that since you won't enjoy freehand over a gloss coat. The gloss will be most durable though.

I don't know who has to hear this. But paying a company one time for a "lifetime" data storage subscription is like buying a square foot of storage in someone's apartment for a one time fee and expecting it to be there forever.

@matt that's funny, because the articles I've read say it's no better than a placebo for decongestion and that's why it's being pulled off the market.

That also tracks with the experience of myself and just about everyone I know.

There's a Terry Pratchett HumbleBundle up and, I gotta tell you: stay the hell away from it.

These things are normally truly excellent deals: all you have to do is drop less than the cost of 2 books, struggle with HB's crappy bulk download tool, plug your kindle into a PC to drag them overand you're set for months. The Battletech and Black Library bundles I've done have been just so very, very good.

So this should be a no-brainer, right? Very wrong, apparently.

@biggeordiegeek @rushputin this is why I only buy the Barnes and Noble Nook devices. Their store and devices use epub natively. I've never had trouble getting my books or loading them. The DRM is also easily removed so I never have to worry about their store disappearing.
