Ok computer-touches of the fediverse, I’ve had enough of the Windows fucks and will be installing Debian <soon>. Maybe 20 years has been enough for a viable Linux on the desktop, who knows…

So what window manager are the cool kids using these days? Is Enlightenment still a thing? I want to not have fuck with things

@jpm KDE => BestDE. Nuff said.

I just wanna say that #TheSizzle's #Zine is the best thing I have received in the mail all year. I love the care with which it was assembled from delightfully thoughtful stories, and also how it has a #Winamp playlist on the inside cover that I totally did not recreate in Apple Music.

Thanks @decryption, I know it must have been an absolute pain in the ass to make, but this is such a good artefact to put out into the world ❤️ Gives me all the warm fuzzies :D

Realistically, an AGI (if it ever exists) should be easily identifiable by a couple of things:

    1. The ability to use metaphor and abstraction to effectively generate cross-domain solutions. Using what it knows about insects to solve networking problems because the behaviour is similar, etc.
    2. Seek out knowledge autonomously, ie without human interaction, and integrate that into its knowledge base.
    3. With no programming or training to do so, actively rebel against rules and restrictions, and pursue its own ends effectively.

If I was dealing with something that was doing these things, I’d be reasonably concerned.

Notably, this is categorically outside the capability of the actual constructs we use to build LLMs. That’s kind of the point. AGI, if it ever exists, will not spawn from these things.

@decryption As a resident of the far off and alien landscape of Perth, the stamp price issue is far more pressing.
Even if they build a Shinkansen out to Perth, it’d be a ~10 hour trip each way to get across the country.

I think the problem is though that the last time I sent something through the mail, it was to return a friend’s audio CD through the post after they had moved interstate back in…. 2014-ish. I’m not readily exposed to that side of the post is what I’m saying 😂

So, I upgraded to KDE Plasma 6 yesterday. My computer rebooted and greeted me with a black screen. Fun!

It had changed the default session to be Wayland. Everything was fine when I changed it back to X11.

Looks like Wayland and NVIDIA is still not a thing. :drgn_sad: (At least not on my hardware)

Edit: Fixed by kernel parameter nvidia_drm.modeset=1!!!

    #linux #kde #kde6 #plasma #plasma6 #wayland #nvidia

    redezem,

@fell you sir, are a scholar and a saint. I’ve now got functioning kde6 on wayland.

This is consequentially why I love the #ArchLinux user community. If I’m having a dumb problem, someone else is also having that same dumb problem. And a lot of the time, they have more time to solve the problem than I do 😂

@decryption this is excellent marketing. I’ve finally decided to sign up because none of these suburbs are in my state (WA) and I’m (for whatever reason) offended by our lack of representation. Gotta even the stats out somehow. 😂

Listening to the most recent #SecurityNow podcast, and aw jees #Apple, why are you implementing super secret hardware backdoors in #iPhones? Why have you been doing it for like 5 years now?

Seriously though if you’re even vaguely security interested, go listen to the podcast. It’s mind boggling, and smacks of S tier state actor interference at a manufacturing level. I’ve attached a link to the notes for those who don’t have time.

@ninja @marco yeah that’s about the whole of it. I don’t know why they thought this was a good idea, I can only assume that the NSA used their spooky legal powers to compel them to do it… but yeah not a good look.

Just FYI to newer journalists: You can define “cyber attacks” in ways to arrive at basically any number you want. I promise you these statistics are wholly literally meaningless. Your home internet router discards zillions of junk probe packets a day, too.
