Me: "Why would people assume ill intent because of being asked questions questions? I thought people liked to be asked questions? Shows interest, makes them the center of attention..."
Other Me: "They don't like them when they assume hidden agendas."
@rachelnabors This has been a constant struggle for me since starting remote work. For two reasons, the first being that Allistic people rarely say what they mean, or give you all the details so I have to ask. The second being that I've got so much experience in my domain that I'm thinking about things they haven't considered & need to make sure they're ok with the consequences they're setting themselves up for if I do what they asked.
Doesn't matter how hard I try to "soften" the questions
@rachelnabors yeah. I don't remember if you've mentioned taking an autism assessment test, but if not: https://embrace-autism.com/autism-tests/ It's WAY under-diagnosed in AFAB folks. If you're autistic, learning what autistic self-care looks like is literally life-changing.
also the "@actuallyautistic" group regularly has people discussing WTFs they encounter like this. I like it, if for no other reason than being reminded that "it's not just me". ;)
@rachelnabors It definitely took me a few years to realise that I'm often perceived more positively if I just say yes to whatever bonkers idea my boss has and let them deal with the fallout later instead of trying to improve upon it upfront.
The hardest thing about breakups, professional as well as romantic, are all the plans you made that will never happen. Or maybe they'll still happen, just not with you. Hard to shake that feeling of "if only we'd had more time, could things have been different?"
I'm working with a company building an amazing tool that has some openings for developers who are passionate about visual development, design systems, React, etc... DMs are open :D
Today I learned about graph databases at a Neo4j, and it felt magical. I remember back when I went to a NoSQL meetup event over a decade ago and feeling the same then.
I freaking love databases. I can see how useful this one is for finding n-nearest neighbor relationships. Ugh, so cool!
Spicy take, Dev Rel as a business function is losing value as tech influencers come with out of the box audiences and metrics that show ROI. Soon the entire function will belong to Marketing and be handed out to third parties in campaigns, just like in fashion
@rachelnabors Interesting. But at some point real tech content still has to be injected somewhere. So will the third parties be professional dev rel organisations or something? Or will it be the tech influencers that take over?
@rachelnabors I'll definitely try to see it when I'm back in London. I'd recommend the stage adaptation of My Neighbour Totoro too, brilliant puppetry and music.
Tell me you used to be a UX designer without telling me you were a UX designer:
In relationships, I'm the one who orders the IKEA, wires the house with digital assistants, outfits the kitchen with gadgets, then hides behind a cardboard box, taking notes and watching as the test subject interacts with their new environment
@rachelnabors i went from the mammoth super ultra wide to the studio display and i’m pretty happy with it, screen quality is pretty good, and having built in cam and speaker again is handy
@rachelnabors I really hate people making fun of those, because of sexism, ableism and classism. It's exhausting, also, like, why do folks care about what other people eat?
