I have an odd problem with #HomeAssistant in #Docker. In its docker container, the command wget does not resolve any domains. It just times out. Curl does resolve hosts correctly. Problem is: #HACS is using wget for updates, which then fail after a while (silently).

Other containers have a working wget, so it looks like it's homeassistant + docker in this case.

The container is (as documented) in host network mode.

Any ideas to fix this?

@guerda Can you confirm that curl is using the ipv6 address that wget is?

The fact wget is resolving the domain to an address suggests it's not DNS thats the issue.

I just woke up to the strangest sound, like claws against a bathtub, and, after investigating, I found that was exactly what I was hearing. I haven't the slightest idea how she managed to get into the bathtub on her own, but the far bigger mystery, given what usually happens to her in there, is not the how but the why.

Worked out a neat little config:

  • Install Tailscale on pfSense
  • Advertise it as a route for your home network subnet
  • Configure it to NAT to the Tailscale int address for traffic outbound to Tailscale
  • Add 100.100.100.100 as a sub resolver for your MagicDNS domain

Now, non-Tailscale devices on my home network are accessible from Tailscale, and Tailscale devices are accessible from the home network without Tailscale. Neat!

Popped into the local Botanist for lunch. My god was it delicious.

I can't remember what it it was but it was coconutty and curryish and sweet potatoes and just mega flavour. A++ would recommend.

The local game shop finally has all the old Army Painter paints on clearance ahead of getting the new range in so I got myself a handful. I know some people consider them low-quality and I've had those bad experiences too, but I believe in "get good at using what you've got" for budget reasons (and also I'm not aspiring to a level that justifies spending on "only the best").

@bradfrank just locked myself out. The default rules block all traffic and the instructions do say to setup some stuff beforehand.

It also says that local network access shouldn't be affected but I'm not seeing that.

@bradfrank had to lug a monitor into my network cupboard (the cramped space under the stairs) and was able to disable the firewall by editing the appropriate /etc/pve files.

All up and running again.
