When you checkout TruthSocial almost every ad is from the EpochTimes, which is the propaganda wing of a cult (Falun Gong) which funds itself from that weird Chinese touring drum show (Shen Yun)
So people are innocently going to a show and unintentionally helping a cult to get their preferred president elected.

In the video I just released I didn’t cover “how to mastodon” but a big difference is there isn’t an algorithm feeding you stuff. You have to curate your experience by following people.
That intentionality takes time, but enjoy the process and the result of not being fucked with by a robot for retention.
It’s reminiscent of looking for new music.
Here’s a good place to start:

Building high density along transit isn’t good enough anymore, there aren’t enough specialized workers to build towers. It’s an inherently expensive form of housing.
They have to legalize cheaper to build medium density everywhere.

What’s your best idea for a new Enterprise inspired square?

@GreatestTrek “Vulcan high” where the guys get as stoned as those zombie Vulcans.
“Lost In Universal Translation” where the guys have to watch an episode with the audio track in a different language of their choice and try to piece together the plot.
“Reluctant lotion partner” the guys watch an episode with a partner/friend, but the partner writes the notes which are only seen by the guys when the start the recording.

Great news.
The Public Order Emergency Commission and David Johnston (Ski Buddy) affair really shook my faith in Canada’s checks and balances.
Really felt like they screwed up and faced not even... hard questions in public.
This is the « healthy democracy » stuff that is good to see.

Leaving Australia very impressed.
Traveled extensively across Melbourne and Sydney.
Unified transit with card taps. Ferry to bus to tram to train frequently going anywhere. It makes exploring fun. Their commuter rail is basically a metro to the edge of town.
But beyond dorky stuff. The cities are clean, diverse, interesting, barely any homeless.
It’s caused a lot of reflection for me as a person who mentally categorized Canada as the same.
I think we have a systemic issue with our governance.

A lot of people in are down about transit but this train station on my street didn’t even exist when I grew up.

I’ve been in New Zealand for a few days. Anecdotally I’m hearing far more about American politics than home in Quebec.
I’m starting to wonder if language is actually a better insulator from it than geography.

…Or maybe my friends are just used to me zoning out when it comes up.

The video game industry tax credits are such a mismanaged failure.
Sucked up all Quebec’s talent to generate profits for foreign corporations. Never created a domestic industry. They’ll be out of here as soon as we stop paying them off.
Can’t we please phase out subsidies to foreign owned companies?

I think car owners are only just getting an idea of what it has felt like to own a decent bike forever.
Imagine if a car left locked on an urban street for a couple of nights was almost guaranteed to be stolen.
Imagine that most people you knew just didn’t buy new cars because they were too likely to be stolen.
Imagine that you had to park in in a garage, and could only visit friends with a garage to park it in.
Imagine you intentionally painted silly colours so people wouldn’t take it.

When I meet someone and say I use Mastodon they then often show up a day or two later on here, post a few times to no-one, then I assume go back to

Should I make a video guide for how a low-algorithmic social media site works? Or in the end are they dealing with an addiction and just can't handle not getting the strongest hit possible?

Real estate signs in New Zealand seem quite fancy to me. Makes me realize that it’s kind of crazy that realtors don’t spend $50 more selling a million dollar house.

It's worth mentioning that BILL C-371 from Taylor Bachrach would give passenger priority.
It's just sitting there after first reading.
People who like rail transportation should encourage their local MPs to support this bill.
It's an easy win.

Is someone working on a fediverse alternative?
I probably need to read @evan book to see how possible this is.
I’m imagining something that would take payments from supporters. Creators could publish across different fediverse services « To supporters » which would private post the stuff to them.
Just start with one or two services that you get onboard by sharing a small payment processing fee between fedipatreon and the services used.

I don’t know how dumb this is, but I really like Patreon. Being able to give nice supportive people an exclusive video or a post about what you’re thinking about is a really wholesome arrangement. It seems like a good fit with this place. Solving this problem could get a nice revenue stream going for both the developers of, and the creators using these fediverse services.

Politicians should take note of the insane traffic today in . Tourists and locals have simulated what just a few thousand more cars hitting the road of downtown looks like.
At current population growth rates this is what Montreal will be like every day if we don’t get competitive (grade separated) transit built.

An access to information request leaves everyone in government looking like incompetent liars.

paige,

To summarize: Our federal and provincial governments created a system that used international students to cover a funding shortfall for public colleges.
They didn’t ensure enough housing was built to accommodate those new arrivals as they exited the residency pipeline.
When the housing crisis hit people noticed this obvious source of demand. The government blamed private bad actors (some bad apples), but it is a much larger public education issue and now the whole house of cards is tumbling.
