Is someone working on a fediverse alternative?
I probably need to read @evan book to see how possible this is.
I’m imagining something that would take payments from supporters. Creators could publish across different fediverse services « To supporters » which would private post the stuff to them.
Just start with one or two services that you get onboard by sharing a small payment processing fee between fedipatreon and the services used.

What am I supposed to think about all the people who were disengaged when it was obvious we had an awful housing shortage building for the last decade, who were only motivated to voice their thoughts on the issue when they found out about immigration? And who focus first on foremost on reducing the immigration and not all the other components of the crisis.
It is just so fucking dissapointing.

I’ve put together an experimental video about some friends of mine who live in the city and get their little kids to run errands.
I’m just not sure about putting it out there because unless kids have changed a lot I would have gotten so much shit if my friends found a video of me online buying milk for my dad.
I’m thinking I might just keep it on Patreon and send it to a film festival or something. Am I being overly sensitive and kids these days don’t care?

Having a mastodon server has filled in my comprehension of this thing a bit. But it’s still a bit of a mystery.
There seems like a need for sone sort of shared content caching from relays for hosting providers. Allowing a small instance like mine to share resources with other instances and save money.
Maybe some sort of “soft follow” or trending system, a way to configure a custom algorithm, like “popular with my follows”
A way to limit publications from shoving 20 articles into your timeline.

Happy to see investing in the fundamentals in , this series does everything right.
I listened to a few of the episodes on stuff I know about and they’re doing a pretty good job.

I think cities need to specify an open bike share standard or reasonable licensing options as a requirement for bids. We’re going to have serious vendor lock in the coming decades and be stuck paying too much.

Why are we bending over for this stuff anyway?
The whole country is scrambling to subsidize foreign owned companys and lock in subsidized car culture for another 100 years.

Peertube 6 just added the ability to replace videos and password protect videos. These are two big wins in the @peertube column for me vs YouTube.
I'd love to see some sort of membership or synchronization with Patreon. Kind of need to figure out how to get paid without YouTube in the picture for it to really takeoff.

WhatsApp has blocked me "due to spam" which (needless to say) is nonsense or some glitch on their end.
I know people will find it annoying/pretentious if I fully switch over to but can you blame me after losing my primary means of communication? This fucking sucks and if it doesn't get resolved is going to mess up the next few months like i lost a wallet.

When you checkout TruthSocial almost every ad is from the EpochTimes, which is the propaganda wing of a cult (Falun Gong) which funds itself from that weird Chinese touring drum show (Shen Yun)
So people are innocently going to a show and unintentionally helping a cult to get their preferred president elected.

Got my first Twitter style experience. Random accounts coming in at high intensity.
Woo, piss to the face in the morning!
It sounds counter intuitive but to more fairly represent their position I don’t want to get these replies. I think a lot of public figures have been driven mad before our eyes by this backfire-effect dynamic and I’m scared of becoming another angry disappointment.
I lurk tons of private subreddits so I hear these positions all the time, just not in the “feeling attacked” form

I've been refreshing projections on the USA:CAN population ratio.
Getting this to 1:5 is something I hope Canada can achieve in my lifetime.
Being smaller than France/UK/Italy really sucks when you're the only neighbour of a superpower.

Melbournes trains have been a revelation. We have to get urban railway infrastructure into public ownership in #Canada. The status quo is unacceptable when you realize how much it constrains our options to REALLY expensive alternatives.

Leaving Australia very impressed.
Traveled extensively across Melbourne and Sydney.
Unified transit with card taps. Ferry to bus to tram to train frequently going anywhere. It makes exploring fun. Their commuter rail is basically a metro to the edge of town.
But beyond dorky stuff. The cities are clean, diverse, interesting, barely any homeless.
It’s caused a lot of reflection for me as a person who mentally categorized Canada as the same.
I think we have a systemic issue with our governance.

I understand why mastodon instances would block #threads until they prove they’ll reciprocate and federate in both directions. Until they do that, they’re nudging people join threads if they want to interact.

Today’s video bashes the wayfinding in Toronto.
Before anyone in #Montreal gets too smug.

  • Our NIMBYS got the REM cancelled
  • Our bidding process is uncompetitive so everything costs a fortune and hardly anything gets built
  • You have to keep a different OPUS card for each fare zone
  • Still no credit card tap
  • Unions have captured the STM and blocked the metro being automated to the detriment of public safety and operating cost
  • The Exo train isn’t 20% of GO
So like, yay we have nice signage

I’d be so happy if the whole country got elections at every level this year. Canadians voted for incumbents during and after the pandemic at abnormally high rates.
A lot of those elections done under societal duress just don’t line up with where citizens are at and kind of need a redo.
