New train experience would have been a lot better without all the sticky bits of paper and lining up for the train like it's an airplane.
It's 2024.

It's worth mentioning that BILL C-371 from Taylor Bachrach would give passenger priority.
It's just sitting there after first reading.
People who like rail transportation should encourage their local MPs to support this bill.
It's an easy win.

WhatsApp has blocked me "due to spam" which (needless to say) is nonsense or some glitch on their end.
I know people will find it annoying/pretentious if I fully switch over to #signal but can you blame me after losing my primary means of communication? This fucking sucks and if it doesn't get resolved is going to mess up the next few months like i lost a wallet.

Back now, but going to start migrating over to signal whoever I can. I think meta spontaneously cancelling what is effectively my phone for a day just makes me realize how much these platforms can do you dirty.

Happy to see investing in the fundamentals in , this series does everything right.
I listened to a few of the episodes on stuff I know about and they’re doing a pretty good job.

@WTL interesting, I think it's a good strategy having a local team doing infotainment podcasts across the country.
Wish they would do the same for local investigative teams in each large city on a monthly basis. Like "Is Quebec's industrial policy working?" and find out what all these subsidies are costing across vanity industries.

@ImplyingImplications @paige thanks, I’ve been hanging out on masto/peertube for a while and only just got around to exploring Lemmy. Hope they integrate with each other more in future.

@paige if I comment in Mastodon does this show up in Lemmy?

When I meet someone and say I use Mastodon they then often show up a day or two later on here, post a few times to no-one, then I assume go back to #twitter

Should I make a video guide for how a low-algorithmic social media site works? Or in the end are they dealing with an addiction and just can't handle not getting the strongest hit possible?

Hailing frequencies are open! In preparation for Enterprise, we’re taking FoD suggestions for new squares on the revamped Game Of Buttholes board.

What’s your best idea for a new Enterprise inspired square?

@GreatestTrek “Vulcan high” where the guys get as stoned as those zombie Vulcans.
“Lost In Universal Translation” where the guys have to watch an episode with the audio track in a different language of their choice and try to piece together the plot.
“Reluctant lotion partner” the guys watch an episode with a partner/friend, but the partner writes the notes which are only seen by the guys when the start the recording.

Politicians should take note of the insane traffic today in #Montreal. Tourists and locals have simulated what just a few thousand more cars hitting the road of downtown looks like.
At current population growth rates this is what Montreal will be like every day if we don’t get competitive (grade separated) transit built.

Back it Canada and immediately you notice the homeless people everywhere.
Provincial politicians in Quebec are fighting the federal government requiring zoning reform. When do these guys ever not blame the feds?

paige, to random
@paige@canadiancivil.com avatar

A lot of people in are down about transit but this train station on my street didn’t even exist when I grew up.

Front page news today in NZs most read paper per capita.
« Dog stuck in Pipe »
« Camper locked in loo »
Where firefighters were called because the person was pushing rather than pulling on the door.

Is someone working on a fediverse #patreon alternative?
I probably need to read @evan book to see how possible this is.
I’m imagining something that would take payments from supporters. Creators could publish across different fediverse services « To supporters » which would private post the stuff to them.
Just start with one or two services that you get onboard by sharing a small payment processing fee between fedipatreon and the services used.

paige,
@paige@canadiancivil.com avatar

I don’t know how dumb this is, but I really like Patreon. Being able to give nice supportive people an exclusive video or a post about what you’re thinking about is a really wholesome arrangement. It seems like a good fit with this place. Solving this problem could get a nice revenue stream going for both the developers of, and the creators using these fediverse services.

I’ve been in New Zealand for a few days. Anecdotally I’m hearing far more about American politics than home in Quebec.
I’m starting to wonder if language is actually a better insulator from it than geography.

…Or maybe my friends are just used to me zoning out when it comes up.

The video game industry tax credits are such a mismanaged failure.
Sucked up all Quebec’s talent to generate profits for foreign corporations. Never created a domestic industry. They’ll be out of here as soon as we stop paying them off.
Can’t we please phase out subsidies to foreign owned companies?

Real estate signs in New Zealand seem quite fancy to me. Makes me realize that it’s kind of crazy that realtors don’t spend $50 more selling a million dollar house.
