I noticed the other day that sword on this statue in Square Philips was rubbed gold.
This made me wonder if there are any other statues in #Montreal that get rubbed, and if not, what should we be rubbing?!

I’d be so happy if the whole country got elections at every level this year. Canadians voted for incumbents during and after the pandemic at abnormally high rates.
A lot of those elections done under societal duress just don’t line up with where citizens are at and kind of need a redo.

I think car owners are only just getting an idea of what it has felt like to own a decent bike forever.
Imagine if a car left locked on an urban street for a couple of nights was almost guaranteed to be stolen.
Imagine that most people you knew just didn’t buy new cars because they were too likely to be stolen.
Imagine that you had to park in in a garage, and could only visit friends with a garage to park it in.
Imagine you intentionally painted silly colours so people wouldn’t take it.

It's worth mentioning that BILL C-371 from Taylor Bachrach would give passenger priority.
It's just sitting there after first reading.
People who like rail transportation should encourage their local MPs to support this bill.
It's an easy win.

WhatsApp has blocked me "due to spam" which (needless to say) is nonsense or some glitch on their end.
I know people will find it annoying/pretentious if I fully switch over to but can you blame me after losing my primary means of communication? This fucking sucks and if it doesn't get resolved is going to mess up the next few months like i lost a wallet.

Happy to see investing in the fundamentals in , this series does everything right.
I listened to a few of the episodes on stuff I know about and they’re doing a pretty good job.

When I meet someone and say I use Mastodon they then often show up a day or two later on here, post a few times to no-one, then I assume go back to

Should I make a video guide for how a low-algorithmic social media site works? Or in the end are they dealing with an addiction and just can't handle not getting the strongest hit possible?

Politicians should take note of the insane traffic today in . Tourists and locals have simulated what just a few thousand more cars hitting the road of downtown looks like.
At current population growth rates this is what Montreal will be like every day if we don’t get competitive (grade separated) transit built.

Back it Canada and immediately you notice the homeless people everywhere.
Provincial politicians in Quebec are fighting the federal government requiring zoning reform. When do these guys ever not blame the feds?

I’m heading back to Canada on Friday, but I’ll miss the politics in New Zealand.

Front page news today in NZs most read paper per capita.
« Dog stuck in Pipe »
« Camper locked in loo »
Where firefighters were called because the person was pushing rather than pulling on the door.

Is someone working on a fediverse alternative?
I probably need to read @evan book to see how possible this is.
I’m imagining something that would take payments from supporters. Creators could publish across different fediverse services « To supporters » which would private post the stuff to them.
Just start with one or two services that you get onboard by sharing a small payment processing fee between fedipatreon and the services used.

I’ve been in New Zealand for a few days. Anecdotally I’m hearing far more about American politics than home in Quebec.
I’m starting to wonder if language is actually a better insulator from it than geography.

…Or maybe my friends are just used to me zoning out when it comes up.

The video game industry tax credits are such a mismanaged failure.
Sucked up all Quebec’s talent to generate profits for foreign corporations. Never created a domestic industry. They’ll be out of here as soon as we stop paying them off.
Can’t we please phase out subsidies to foreign owned companies?

Real estate signs in New Zealand seem quite fancy to me. Makes me realize that it’s kind of crazy that realtors don’t spend $50 more selling a million dollar house.

Leaving Australia very impressed.
Traveled extensively across Melbourne and Sydney.
Unified transit with card taps. Ferry to bus to tram to train frequently going anywhere. It makes exploring fun. Their commuter rail is basically a metro to the edge of town.
But beyond dorky stuff. The cities are clean, diverse, interesting, barely any homeless.
It’s caused a lot of reflection for me as a person who mentally categorized Canada as the same.
I think we have a systemic issue with our governance.

Melbournes trains have been a revelation. We have to get urban railway infrastructure into public ownership in #Canada. The status quo is unacceptable when you realize how much it constrains our options to REALLY expensive alternatives.
