What are these smol geese? They're called Cackling Geese, and will sometimes be found around flocks of Canada Geese. Apparently it's a fun challenge to look for them during bird counts. Though they have the same colours, they stand out by their size (not much bigger than a duck) and proportionately smaller neck and bill.

After literally years of hearing people banging on about the resident Bittern... we finally saw it! And not just a quick glimpse, but it was out hunting in the open! It is a gorgeous creature, with a heron's trademark killer glare, but build very differently, and with subtly beautiful markings -- ƛ̓éxətəm (Tlahutum) Regional Park, April 7

If a cisgender person gets upsetti spaghetti because you used the Latin prefix cis- to describe them, I think the best thing to do is comply with their request and use the Greek synonyms homo- (same) and hetero- (different) instead.

Problemo solved, my homogender buddy.

Speaking as a cis person: no it doesn't.

Saying "bigots" ignores the fact that it's cis people getting all up in arms about the term. Not all. But, y'know, enough.

I mean, you've just been casually using "trans" all over the place. "Cis" is just as useful a term

You could put on your big (cis) boy pants and accept that trans people will vent and bitch about cis people, just like queer people about straight people, Black people about white people, etc...

That's just life. Don't be the [something negative] they're complaining about and you'll be fine.

Those people you heroically marched with long ago, did you police their language then the same way you're doing now?

The news that people carry stereotypes and negative connotations around certain words is not exactly news.

That said, labels are hooks to connect as well as divide. And, using them openly can be an antidote to these "emotions, past hurts, or deeply ingrained bad value systems" that you're so afraid of.

I remember reading an op-ed by Quentin Crisp, in which he advised LGBT people to stay in the closet. /

/ because words hurt, and he grew up in an era where self-preservation was more important than openness, and it was better to leave your granny in the dark than be open about who you were.

I'm seeing the same deference to some people's squeamishness around certain words in your posts, and John's.
