I still don’t understand how anyone could have ever even looked at Santos and thought he was legit?

@ryanbooker his life story will make for a fun screwball comedy though.

This is absolutely disgusting. Organisations that are among the richest in the world want bailed out - fuck that!

Isn't it curious how capitalism is so amazing that socialism needs to bail it out constantly when it completely fails.

nesevis,

@bazscott I read that this morning and was very confused. If they can’t be indemnified against payouts related to their abuse of children in their care, they won’t be able to … help vulnerable children?

nesevis,
@nesevis@hachyderm.io avatar

@bazscott it’s outrageous that this is how they address the abuse: by reducing the consequences felt by the organisation. If they started tackling this problem at the root, maybe the church wouldn’t be such an effective bit of camouflage for predators of all stripes. It just makes my blood boil.

The word "hill" just started looking weird and unwordlike to me. I hate it when that happens!

@grammargirl I had a bad case of this about 15 years with the word ‘stomach’. It stuck for long enough to be quite unnerving.

This is probably the best thing I ever posted on Twitter. The memory is pretty dear to me; I'm sharing it here so it still exists somewhere if that place collapses.

@mcnees I think about this one often. We’ll do our best to run this scam once my son is old enough.

“I think we need to dig into what is happening here, which is that, when faced with a system that presents itself as a listening, eager interlocutor that’s hearing us and responding to us, that we seem to fall into a kind of trance in relation to these systems, and almost counterfactually engage in some kind of wish fulfillment: thinking that they’re human, and there’s someone there listening to us.”

Erin Kissane is one of our best. I don’t quite agree with her synthesis/conclusion, but if you enjoy the things I post about here, I’m willing to bet you’ll derive still greater pleasure from seeing many of those same concepts more thoughtfully elucidated, given space to breathe and brought into fructifying alignment with one another. https://erinkissane.com/patterns-prophets-and-priests

@adamgreenfield this got me: “the sacrifices of some human minds to the labor of protecting wealthier people from seeing atrocities in their feeds and some human bodies to the crushing and sometimes deadly labor of making frictionless online orders bloom into take-out and socks and perfect glass phones in our hands”

Oof. This morning, the battery in the car seems dead.

I guess that's expected, given it was off the road waiting for parts for 8 months of the past 12.

    Traaaain roll on!

I finally got my car back yesterday after over four months at the smash repairers. Brand new tyres, completely new back half of the car.

I’d been waiting for the curse to kick back in, and sure enough, Leah just sent me this in a message:

(Fondly?) Remembering Hulk Hogan’s 1994 TV show “Thunder in Paradise”, an unholy union of themes from Knight Rider, Airwolf and Baywatch.

Hulk Hogan and his co-star Chris Lemmon, posing back-to-back while wielding comically excessive guns, while wearing militaresque clothes and a 1990s call centre-like headset. We stand ready to take your call!
