#wordweavers May 08 What behaviors does your characters' society discourage?

A ton of things.

  • Homosexuality is punishable by death in most countries (I did NOT make up these rules: Europe/Middle East in the 12th century).
  • Don't contradict the church.
  • Wife, don't contradict your husband (much, it's not quite as bad as 19th century).
  • Child, don't contradict your parents.
  • etc, etc, etc.

I'm so glad I did not live in that time, tbh.

@anderlandbooks but if you were born in the 12th century, you wouldn’t find those rules bad because you would never have known otherwise

1/5 Got tagged by @madikonrad over at Tumblr for the 'Questions For Your OC'!! – answer 3 questions as your main OC(s) – since we’re #writers, we can write this as a narrative, first-person, or RPG style - anyway we wish.

When done, provide 3 new questions to pass on to the next creator. (you then tag others with 3 new questions)

My main OC’s are Aedan the Ancalite and Lucius Scipio Servius, and the following questions are from sapphic author, Madeline Konrad.

@NaraMoore @sfwrtr @caointeoireacht thanks for tagging me ☺️ Is there a deadline ?

Questions For Your OC: answer 3 questions as your main OC(s)

Then provide 3 new questions to pass on to the next creators.

I was tagged by @NaraMoore:

  1. If you could start over what would you do differently?
    As hard it is to admit, probably nothing because changing anything to make my life better at first would lead me to never cross Erie.

[1/3]

@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar
  1. If you could go to any alternate universe and start over what would that universe be like?
    I learned that there’s universes like Valerian and Laureline or Star Trek in which a relation like mine with Erie wouldn’t be stigmatised. I would like to live in such universe.

  2. If you could instantly kill or save someone, including someone long dead, who would it be and why?
    I would save my brother, he didn’t deserve to take his own life so young.

[2/3]

  1. Life on Mars?
  2. Where is my mind?
  3. Should I Stay or Should I Go?

@AnnaSaultron Yeep (and I already shared today a bunch of asses without anyway)

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

@NaraMoore @AnnaSaultron I think it’s more subtle than that: when I was a teenager, half women were breast free on the beach, and totally naked people were not uncommon. The context makes it totally unsexualised. Now we’re in a more strict era, and we’re not helped by IA that strike a woman feeding her baby as if it’s p0rn

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

@NaraMoore France being a latin/catholic country, we are less open than Scandinavia, Germany or Netherlands about public nudity but probably more than everyone else. @AnnaSaultron

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

@NaraMoore @AnnaSaultron not sure the world is really open about letting France decides what is good and what’s not for the world (although we are totally ready to do it, in fact we already give our opinion even if people didn’t ask 🤣)

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

@NaraMoore @AnnaSaultron last year I was attending a Nada Surf concert and the guy who were doing the opening (who came from Florida) was saying that US was about to have a new Civil War and he hoped to have a EU citizenship to be able to escape from all this mess. And things are not better since (but they are not really good here too, TBH)

#writerscoffeeclub 01/05/2024 OMG! What happened to your MC's parents?

  1. Esther’s father was one of the richest golden boys of his time. For most, he was a successful business angel...
  2. For his family, he was a demon: Obsessed with social recognition, we must be tools to help him rise higher and higher.
  3. Remove a small brick from the building, and the whole building is ready to collapse

04/05/2024 What's the worst thing about being a writer artist?

According to Les Etats généraux de la bande dessinée (General States of the Comics), 33% of the comics artists were living below poverty level in France in 2017. Things didn’t change for the best since

A few months ago, a movement for a European artist status has been launched, including hashtags & I did a supporting art

#writerscoffeeclub 05/05/2024 Is there a certain kind of story or arc that is easier for you to write as a short story than others?

Until now, and with the exception of the initial story, all Inktober have been prequels about the youth of a character:
⁃ 2020: Youth of the Chamberlain
⁃ 2022: Youth of Erie
⁃ 2023: Youth of Esther

Inktober 2023 Day 01: Esther is dreaming about her teen years; the dream starts with her in the attic of her father’s mansion

Yes, I just add the French typical copyright statement.

#writerscoffeeclub 08/05/2024 When writing technical or scientific detail, how much is plausible versus imagined?

That’s why I don’t do Hard Sci-fi, I don’t want someone who comes to explain me that this very small detail that appears only in one panel is not accurate.

#writerscoffeeclub 09/05/2024 What's the minimum time you can work on your writing? Do you need a long, clear period?

Luckily no, because I never have such periods. I mostly work by microperiods (but thanks to the two days off, I have 2 long periods of… one hour for starting working on the chapter 2)

01/05/2024 Introduce your setting as if it's a character in your story.

The McAlistair mansion POV: “I’m currently the host of Esther and her strange little maid. Before I belonged to Esther’s husband, but he wasn’t with them when they came back from the colonies. Something has happened there, I don’t know what, but it makes Esther ill. The little strange maid tries her best to help.”

#wordweavers 05/05/2024 Are there characters or events that challenge your MC's belief system?

That’s the plot: the events at the Chamberlain’s Seminary will completely challenge the way Esther sees the world. I could quote @NaraMoore answer:
That the supernatural is real
⁃ The desirability of social conformity
⁃ That no one can be trusted (except Erié)
⁃ The world is a cursed place

#wordweavers 06/05/2024 Who is your most fun character?

Hmm my story doesn’t leave much place for fun, but I would go with Lady D’Arcy. Being the villainess, she’s the one who can be the most funny, by her lack of moral limits and excesses.

#wordweavers 07/05/2024 What behaviors does your characters' society encourage?

As in the actual Victorian era, women are supposed to spouse a man and then to stay confined in the role of mother and home’s mistress. They are expected to be modest and discreet.

#wordweavers 08/05/2024 What behaviors does your characters' society discourage?

For a woman : being a free and independent, someone who stands for herself instead of staying in the shadows of her man, someone proud of herself, someone sexually very active (and not shy about it), well, everything Lady d’Arcy is.

#wordweavers 09/05/2024 Does your MC agree with 7&8?

At the beginning of the story, Esther was fully complying to 7 and she was very upset by Lady d’Arcy. But what happened in the undergrounds of the Chamberlain’s Seminary will open her new perspectives… but is it possible to take Lady d’Arcy’s freedom of without embracing all the bad sides? That’s one of the main questions of the story

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 10/05/2024 Antagonist POV: What do you like the most about yourself?

Lady d’Arcy: «In all honesty, everything! I’m perfect now that I use dark magic to rejuvenate and enhance myself!»

[Illustration: Arts of Lady d’Arcy depicting her perfect curves]
#fediart #mastodonart #mastoart #creativetoots

Lady d’Arcy is lying on a couch, she wears a red silky corset, with matching underwear and gloves. She smiles in a mocking way. She caresses a depressed Esther who is lying her head on Lady D’Arcy hips
